you know me, looking for a conspiracy theory around every corner. according to this article, the u.s. soldiers knew full well that the group they were firing on were journalists, because they had been driving around watching them. Mazen Dana was a sort of celebrity journalist, well known, and winner of many awards. Dana had been shot before while filming war torn areas.

my crackpot theory is that the u.s. govt. is targeting certain members of the international media. they seem to fire on hotels where they know journalists are. there are differing numbers on how many journalists have been killed in baghdad, but it's an unusually large number. maybe they should wear bright day glo orange jumpsuits so there is no confusing them. like the soldier confused Dana's camera with a shoulder fired grenade launcher.

1. He was filming Abu Ghaib prison. Not something the Crusaders would want

But there's no conspiracy. They don't want it filmed for the same reason they don't want Guantanamo filmed. The kidnap victims held there are not treated in accordance with international laws and conventions.

Although why they should care who films it is not clear.

At this point Cheney could roast and eat live Iraqi babies on CNN and the big argument would be whether the camera should have turned away.

Even if Sharon ordered him killed, that's still not a conspiracy.

Assasination is US policy now, just like Israel.

2. Not Crackpot
"my crackpot theory is that the u.s. govt. is targeting certain members of the international media."

It's not crackpot. Remember Kate Adie's interview where she revealed
that she had been told as much by "a senior officer in the Pentagon"

Certainly, the sheer number of journalists killed and more importantly, the circumstances in which they were killed lends credence to your theory.
