Hardball on Iraq bombings

Former Military Guy #1: There are thousands of Ex Soldiers etc, who could be doign this

Chris: Why didn't we track them down? We just the military (Iraq) walk away.

Former Military Guy #1: We should have.

Whats interesting is that he said 'thousands', not just a handful of diehards.

Chris: How is the different then Israel? The more troops we put in, the angrier the locals get.

Former Military Guy #1: 73% of our 'deployable' forces are deployed. We don't have anyone else to send in.

1. How likely would US soldiers be to help an occupation force kill Americans

If America were invaded by say, Malaysia, do you think there would be a lot of US servicemen eager to help the Malaysian troops kick in the doors of other Americans and take money out of pocketbooks and cookie jars, slap the kids around a little?

Expert: Just fanatics. 90% of Iraqi's know we will be leaving.

Emerson: This is similar to what happened the the Soviets. People from all over the Arab world went into Afghanistan to fight the Soviets. Something similar is now happening in Iraq.

The USSR is no more. The USSR went from a super power status to belly up from an extended war fighting Arabs in Afghanistan and is now just another European country. Hope the same thing don't happen to the USA.

It's the same exact thing: the Russians took over the whole country, claimed victory and spent the next ten years losing a guerilla war. And I'd bet you dollars to donuts that the Russians and Chinese will arm the guerillas through Iran and Syria. Those countries would love to knock us off the lone superpower pedestal.

they would take it. You know if they had a chance to pay us back for Afghanistan, they would. Every country wants to be the big guy on the block; but to get there, you have to knock the other guy out. Geopolitics and nothing more.

If they provide aid, we will know and they will pay.

Also, with a population of only about 100 million and a moribund economy, Russia is a long way from being the king of the hill. China is much closer, but we could really hurt them economically and they know it.

10. They can back door arms

through Syria and Iran. They supply those countries with weapons anyway, so it could go unnoticed.

I think both Russia and China have decided that the most important competition is economic, not military.
