If General Clark runs
who will be the first high-profile repub to push himself away from Bush? McCain? Lugar? Voinovich? Domenici? This could be fun.

1. Hmm
They all supported the war, though, didn't they? That may be what keeps them away. Aside from that, I'd choose McCain. Why is he still a Republican?

Another one to keep in mind down the line: Colin Powell. Tom Clancy was being interviewed recently on the Charlie Rose show, and he was asked about Clark. Clancy said that he dind't know much about him, but that he had had the opportunity to talk to Powell about Clark, and Powell said that Clark was (paraphrased) an honorable man, a great American, and that everything he had undertaken he had done right.

So, if Powell is stepping down before the '04 race...perhaps he'll have a surge of conscience and endorse Clark?

5. I think McCain is a Rep. because he's an opportunist.....He wants to be on
the winning side....I don't find him trustworthy...He always seems to be trying a little too hard to be ingratiating...Sometimes there's a look in his eyes which is pure cruelty. That's my take on him.

6. McCain's a Republican

Because he's been one his whole life. Imagine that, a retired military guy who believes in strong loyalty?

Also, he agrees with everything the Republican party stands for except for recent policies imported into the Republican party by the Dixiecrats following their rejection by modern Democrats.

4. realistically, nobody
it's all politics and they will back him even if they don't like him either out of fear of Rover and Cheney or backlash from other republican leaders

7. McCain is still pissed about the fake veterans organization in SC
Does anyone remember this? The Bush crew made up a fake veterans organization to endorse *, while the real veterans were supporting McCain.
