Bill Clinton was able to pick up 57% in the 1992 election and 65% in the '96 election Clinton's first time vote were very similar, also during these elections Voter turnout was at it's highest since the 70's. While Clinton had such high numbers, Al Gore picked up 48% of the young vote while Bush picked up 46% of the young vote and Gore picked up 52% of the first time vote, Bush 43% and Nader 4%. Nader also picked up 5%, and the 18-29 age group was where Nader did the best at. We need to talk about issues that matter to young people such as education(but they have to like the ideas), we need to be able to energize young people because from personal experience they aren't interested in something or someone if it or they is boring. Clinton done so well because he had personality, but he did talk about issues that mattered to young people. Alot of people percieved Al Gore as "uptight", but Al Gore campaigned around Social Security and other issues that affect older people. Which are matters that are important, but they aren't issues that affect young people at the time being. I think if Al Gore got Clinton's numbers in both fields he would of had no problem winning the election and wouldn't be close enough to get it stolen. About the First time Vote, We need to give people a reason to vote and talk about issues that matter to people that never voted before. We need to get people energized and get them interested in politics, but not many politicians are able to do that like Clinton have. So when we talk about electability, consider the first time vote and young vote next time.
