1. Not enough troops.
and Shrubby's already nixed another round of tax cuts.

The selection of the month will be from the usual God-Gays-Guns menu. I expect a Maximum Effort in support of the proposed amendment creating a federal definition for marriage.

3. Yeah, by then they'll have the weapons planted.
Or at least something they can pass off as WMD. The discovery will be announced with great fanfare sometime next month. Want to bet?

4. The Bush administration will make a determination soon...
Edited on Thu Aug-21-03 11:08 AM by The Night Owl
I believe that if Bush's reelection looks unlikely, Bush's overlords will take dramatic action to pump up Bush's numbers. In other words, if Neocon honchos think there is a good chance America will jettison Bottom Gun George W. Bush in the 2004 election, expect another war.

These people have come too far to give up power the way they did when Bush 41's failed reelection bid caught them off guard. I have a feeling that the Necons will do whatever it takes to stay in power this time.

5. This is the only scenario that fits
We don't have the military power right now to go into Iran, and we won't get any international support. Such an invasion would go badly almost immediatly--but if he can use the build up as an excuse to postpone elections, well, that might work.

I personally beileve that they are not reprehensible enough to do this--as bad as they are. IT would be a huge gamble for one thing--it could lead to revolution, and not just from the left.

9. True dat, but...
You are assuming that the Bush administration will opt for another ground invasion. Instead, they might opt for an air war ala Kosovo.

Another possibility is that if the situation continues to deteriorate in Iraq, the Bush administration might use a manufactured crisis in Syria, Iran, or Korea as an excuse to pull the troops out of Iraq and ready them for a campaign in any one of those three places. By doing that, the Bush administration would be able to kill two birds with one stone... They would have an excuse to get out of the Iraq quagmire while Bush's poll numbers climb in anticipation of another war.

6. Probably
but unless it is really big, it will be trumped by General Clark's entry into the race and all the attendant publicity, and Blair's ouster.

I think they will save Saddam's corpse for next Sept., so I don't know what they can trot out this year of sufficient magnitude. They've already used pre-emptive war and massive tax cuts. They are running out of cards in the hand.

8. Rolling Out: The 2004 election campaign in overdrive`
that's my read on things. All other things that are done or said will only serve that goal for the next 14 months. Expect a slight center shift over labor day to stop scaring the more regular Replicant voters

13. I just thought of something.
Won't it be much tougher for the UN to decide whether WMDs "found" in Iraq are authentic after having their base there bombed?
