They're ALL vacationing!! What IS it with these pompous #$@%$'s?
Look at the current Headline page of Google News:
http://news.google.com/

The two main stories read:
"US SECRETARY of State Colin Powell and his British counterpart, Jack Straw, were due to meet in the Hamptons, Long Island, where Powell is vacationing."
AND
"The prime minister (Tony Blair) returned from his Barbados beach braced for an appearance next Thursday at the probe into the death of scientist David Kelly..."

And as we all know, our fearless leader is in the middle of his always dependable month-long August vacation.

Don't these people work for a living?! Don't they realize that they've sent hundreds of their young countrymen to their deaths in a war that is ongoing?!

1. Being evil is hard work
Shitty job performance, bad attendance, id say its time to lay these bums off.

2. We should propose a new law
We should find a representative that will propose a law that mandates the president maintain office hours, limits his TOTAL vacation time per year to two weeks like the rest of America, and force him to keep a time card on which he records how many hours he worked, to assure that he gets to forty.

What do you guys think?

3. France's president too
Chirac just got back to find out that - oh - 10,000 people had fucking died while he was away.

Actually, from what I can tell, the king of vacations is Mayor Tony Williams in DC. Everytime I open the paper, there is a story about him with a dateline of New York or LA or Chicago. These are supposedly "business trips" but it's not like a mayor is establishing trade agreements or is forming military alliances.

4. I'd rather they take time off from work.
They've done enough damage already.

14. this isn't vacation for all of them, just the lazy
It makes sense that our representatives should actually be able to get back home and meet with the real people of their state to hear their concerns.

Would you call Tom Daschle's August road trip a vacation? He is actually driving around and talking to people about their health care concerns.

This is completely different from Bush hiding in a barbecue pit at the bottom of a bottle...and it takes 4 hours to sober him up enough to make a taped, edited speech during a national emergency!

6. Congress has the month off. . .
. . .most government officials vacation in August, they just don't take the whole month off like Bush*!

7. All due respect, but...
I think bashing Chimpy for his August vacation is dumb. First, the president is never really on vacation. He receives briefings and other shiz-nit whether he's down in that Crawford hellhole or in DC. Second, he spends much of that time traveling, as we saw yesterday while he was in Oregon. Finally, other presidents have taken long vacations, too. The Big Dog took a three-week vacation once, if I recall. Is a three-week vacation fine, but a four-week vacation scandalous?

8. Nice try.
It's not so much a four-week vacation as that he's taken more vacation, total, than any other president, ever. He's practically just as much AWOL from his "job" as he was from the Nat'l Guard.

Are you sure you haven't just mistaken this site for FreeRepublic with better jokes?

11. A four week vacation ANNUALLY, on top of others...
... plus his "traveling" is almost exclusively fund-raising / political trips.

I'm sure the Big Dog worked more in a month than this guy does in a year.

13. So far
Dubya's spent a quarter of his term on holidays. If he keeps this up, we'll have only had a working president for three out of four years. While you can honestly say that a president is really never on vacation, it can also be said that Bush's devotion to brush-clearing and tee-time in the midst of a dual-front war and his neverending drumbeat of TERRORISTS JUST OUTSIDE OUR DOORS is beyond disgraceful. He deserves all the bashing that comes his way.

15. Due respect back at ya!
Is he paying as much attention to this summer's briefings as he did to the ones for August 2001? Ready to protect us against terrorism, once again.

Oh, and all of the traveling is for fund-raising. With a photo-op or 2 to "excuse" the fact that we're paying for it.

Add to that the amount of time he spends not-working throughout the year & you can see why we bash. (Although there are other reasons.)

10. Tony Blair doesn't even pay for his holidays
he always manages to borrow someone else's place to holiday in. This time it was Cliff Richard's place in Barbados. I doubt you'll know who he is.

12. Cliff Richard! Hilarious.
I watched the Young Ones a lot; plus I actually remember Cliff Richard's limited success on this side of the pond in the early 80s (I think).

16. I don't begrudge him his time off...
...I wish he'd take more time off, not less.
A day without Bush is like a day without Bushit.
