Dean Losing Support on Left For His Stances on Its Issues
What is you opinion on this? These types of articles always make me suspicious because I don't know the motivation behind them. Is it to separate us even more or to draw attention to something we need to work on? What is your opinion?

Howard Dean has rocketed to the front of the Democratic presidential pack with his angry, outsider style and his overt appeals to the anti-war left. But even as the former Vermont governor galvanizes the party's left flank, many liberals are voicing concern over his stances on some of their most cherished issues.

Many single-issue activists who work on Middle East peace, gun control and drug policy reform — including some who say they were initially attracted to Dean — are becoming increasingly vocal in opposing him. Some are speaking about a "reassessment" on the left and warn darkly that Dean's stands are already costing him support among core Democrats.

"Howard Dean could be the worst of both worlds for progressives," said Norman Solomon, a columnist and figure on the left on the West Coast. "He's not a true progressive, but he's been tarred as being this kind of Birkenstock leftist. What's the payoff here?"

1. These labels crack me up
A True Progressive. Can someone please tell me what that means?

"Progressive" means someone with forward-looking views who can make progress with the state of the nation. If that person is unelectable? No progress. Not progressive.

5. You are right and that is why I question the motivation here.
Not the posters, the article.

7. That is what I am questioning. I am not sure it is true. I know some
that are just warming up to him.

8. Someone is trying to define Dean and define his followers!
The writer of that article knows just what he is doing.

There will be more and more of that.

We know most of his stances, and we support him.

The more threads here against him, the more I am impressed with him.

9. I seriously question
whether anyone is supporting him without knowing how he stands on a number of issues. It's all out there...anyone who would pledge their support to a candidate and know the candidate's views on issues is an idiot.

More than a Quarter of the Way There!
Since we raised the bat in the early morning hours today, the Dean grassroots have come out in force!

An incredible 4,727 Americans have contributed $251,363.20!

You are demonstrating that the American people have the power to defeat this President. As Joe Trippi wrote in an email to more than 305,000 Americans this morning:

Yesterday George Bush took time off from his vacation to go fundraising again, this time in Portland, Oregon. At just one event he brought in $1 million from 500 of his biggest contributors. Outside the fundraiser more than 2,000 Americans gathered to speak out against Bush’s failed policies, which have ruined our economy and damaged our standing in the world community. Yet pocketing $1 million dollars was enough for George W. Bush to thank the people of Portland for their “warm welcome.”
We can’t let George W. Bush continue to rack up millions while the American people are left out in the street. Today, we’re bringing out the bat on the Dean for America website—and putting it up against George W. Bush. Our goal is to raise $1 million against George Bush by the end of the Sleepless Summer Tour—midnight this Tuesday, August 26th. Show George Bush that you are taking our country back by making a contribution today:

Loss of support my ass. And as usual, the average contribution is around 50 bucks.

btw -- from experience, I find this great to rub in the faces of Republicans with their elegant $2,000 a plate dinners.
