Guys could you name me some of the third party people who ran against FDR
in 1932 and 1936. Like more liberals not conservative parties but liberal parties. Ive heard my grandfather talk about someone named Landis I think. He says his brother and others voted for him and he was like a socialist. Just curious maybe he has the name wrong and he means Norman Thomas. I dont know. The old man is still a dem and proud of it :) and he really liked Jannene Gardolfo on crossfire.

1. I think Norman Thomas was ths socialist who ran...Landis...
There was a figure from that time named Kennesaw Mountain Landis, who was a judge and then Comissioner of Baseball. His brothers where congresmen from Indiana.

3. Lemke
I don't believe Kenesaw Mountain Landis ever ran. But Lemke was put up by the remains of the Huey Long Share the Wealth organization after Huey's assassination by a conservative conspiracy (confirmed by one of the conspirators, see T. Harry Williams' biography of Long, although T. Harry thinks the coconspirator was lying). Lemke was the strongest third party candidate in 1936. But Huey might have upset things if he had lived. see

11. by his guards
I found the theory that he was accidently shot by his own guards in a frenzy to be the most convincing.

http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/USAthomas.htm

"Thomas was the Socialist Party presidential candidate in 1940, 1944 and 1948. A strong critic of Soviet communism, Thomas also denounced rearmament and the development of the Cold War. Other issues associated with Thomas during the post-war period included his campaigns against poverty, racism and the Vietnam War."

Quite a guy from what I've heard. Also he died the same year I was born...

EDIT~ 32' and 36'? Missed that.
