Church Expects Clearance in Death
http://www.jsonline.com/news/metro/aug03/164632.asp

Members of a small church where an 8-year-old autistic boy died during a prayer session gathered Sunday at the home of their pastor, who said he was confident no church members or staff would be charged in the case.

"Didn't do nothing wrong," David Hemphill said outside his home Sunday afternoon, with the sounds of yelling and moaning from his gathered flock plainly audible from his front steps. "We did what the Book of Matthew said, Chapter 12. All we did is ask God to deliver him."

Police arrested Ray Hemphill, the pastor's brother, at the church - Faith Temple Church of Apostolic Faith, 8709 N. Fond du Lac Ave. - after paramedics were unable to revive Torrance Cantrell on Friday night. Torrance's mother, Patricia Cooper, held the boy's feet and two other women held the boy's hands during the hourlong prayer session, said Pamela Hemphill, David Hemphill's wife.

They killed this autistic child trying to release the demon spirits? Nice to know that society has moved so far along in, oh, 3,000 years.

1. They better charge these people with Homicide
They are insane murders, and need to be locked up for the safety of all.

3. My question is, what did they do that caused the death of this child.
I read the article and I did not see a specific charge.

I agree that the people are idiots, but that doesn't make them criminal. I suspect that when all of the evidence is in, we will find that they did in fact do things that should not have been done, but until then we should withhold judgement.

5. I reluctantly agree
My anger and distaste for these people is almost clouding my judgement. But we need to know much more before we condemn them for killing the child.

9. The autopsy results are being withheld
Until we learn what the autopsy revealed, we don't have enough information to know exactly what killed this poor child. IMO, more than just this boy's hand & feet had to be "restrained" in order for him to stop breathing.

6. He confessed.
"Didn't do nothing wrong." The man, at least subconsciously, knows he is accountable for that boy's death. I'm sure they had that boy scared literally to death with their talk of Satan, etc.

What a warped world these people live in.

8. More than talk - abuse is suspected
The brother of the pastor was being held on suspician of child abuse. A neighbor reported seeing the bey being beaten with a belt during previous "sessions". Other neighbors talked about seeing bruises on the boy. Why nobody did anything is what mystifies me. If I saw a child being beaten by a group of adults I would be calling 911.
