Did you know there was a plot to kill Nixon--using a PLANE as a flying

bomb?? The story is being told on "Unsolved History" on the Discovery Channel now (9:45 MDT)

An expert reconstructed using Secret Service info.....A man who lived in Philly, mentally ill, blamed the WH for his troubles....specifically, the corrupt President, Nixon.

By the 70's he was an active supporter of the a black group tied to the PLO....name was Sam Byck.

While drinking in a bar, he said someone should kill Nixon, the Secret Service visited him. And they get a report of another threat, and he again denies hostile intentions to the SS.

Pickets outside the WH calling for impeachment, SS interviews again, but again fail to find anything.

Makes a tape ...saying he's going to get on a plane, shoot the pilot , the steer the plane toward the WH...

I read about it in a book about the Secret Service not long ago, but I knew about it before.

The book also discussed an attempt on Truman that I had no idea about. Truman was staying in another mansion while the WH was being reconstructed (forgot which mansion.) Two guys with handguns tried to shoot their way onto the premises, but they were killed by MPs. I think a guard or two was killed as well. And there was an SS agent upstairs guarding the hallway with a Tommy gun while the shooting was taking place outside.

There were a few other good stories too, one about FDR almost getting killed while he was the president-elect. The mayor of some city was leaning in the car window when a gunman opened fire. FDR was unscathed, of course, but the mayor was killed. Happened in 1932.
