OK, that's not the full topic of the show but a ran out of room in the subject line. My point is that NR just published an article titled the "Annals of Bush Hating," which has given Take Back the Media a lot of coverage, negative, of course, including mention on Fox. I thought perhaps some DUers would be interested in calling in.

The Sept. 1 issue of National Review and guess who's featured prominently? The article is titled "Annals of Bush Hating" and includes mention of all of our favorite sites (Counterpunch, SmirkingChimp, Bushbodycount, etc.), hitting heavy on the themes of Bush is a Nazi or a moron.

Back then, the Clinton compilations troubled liberal observers and spurred a series of disapproving articles about Clinton-hating. Today, there appears to be less concern.

Why is it called that? Maybe "National Socialist Review" wouldn't fit easily on the cover.

It's a reactionary right wing rag run by polemicists. How is that Socialist?

The magazine is a right-wing, Bush administration propaganda outlet. Unless you are saying the Dems and the Dem platform they skewer in every issue are really socialists? If that's the case, perhaps you're lost. :shrug:

Byron York's article in your magazine characterizes our web site as 'hateful.' I'd like to know - why is a parody flash animation about George W. Bush 'hateful,' and why is someone like Ann Coulter wishing for Al Gore or John Kerry to be killed by 'friendly fire' not hateful?'

Anne Coulter was fired from the NR by Jonah Goldberg for her ridiculous, impossible to print, hate filled columns.

During the 1990s, unsubstantiated rumors, innuendos, and outright lies about Bill Clinton (Mena airport, Arkansas troopers escorting him to "safe houses" to fool around, Vince Foster) were all reported with straight faces by the national media. Usually there was the caveat that while these scurrilous rumors didn't have a shred of evidence to back them up, Clinton should nevertheless lend the credence of a public denial, just to clear the record.

And the people propagating these lies were given air time and newsprint to repeat them over and over again, even after they had been debunked. And no skepticism attached to them at all, even after they had been shown to be liars again and again. And so the crap put out by the Clinton Chronicles and the Clinton Body Count, hawked by the likes of Jerry Falwell, was given a stature and a credibility unwarranted by any corroborating evidence.

Now, though, we have "the Bush haters," an amorphous, poorly-defined group of people who put out all sorts of information about George W. Bush and his family. However, instead of investigating the truth or falsity of the stories, the popular media simply dismiss the whole ball of wax, and the accusers are lumped together as "the Bush haters." Very convenient, very neat and clean. There's no suggestion that Lil George should address these stories. There's no curiosity on the part of the media to check into them to find out if they're true. No, it's just stuff put out by "the Bush haters."

Tell me that one fairy tale again? The one about the "liberal media"?

All I wanted to say to the guy was, "Well, maybe you can explain how we 'conspiracy theorists', of which YOU right wingers seem to see behind every tree, and Bush Haters went back in our TIME MACHINE and created that Federal Register Page #242 in 1942 that shows Prescott Bush being hammered for Trading with the ENEMY, specifically NAZIS?"
