NCCU students have to use hotel's back door

http://www.herald-sun.com/durham/4-385462.html

DURHAM -- The Durham Hilton recently issued written rules barring students at N.C. Central University, a historically black school, from using the hotel's front door, an act NCCU's chancellor called "unconscionable."

Hilton General Manager Dent Davis initially told The Herald-Sun on Tuesday that there was no contract for NCCU students.

"It's not that they're signing an agreement. They are giving us their name, their vehicle information, things like that," Davis said. "It's an information package for them with general information."

In a later interview, when informed that The Herald-Sun had obtained a copy of the document, Davis acknowledged that it was titled a contract. Davis said he prefers to refer to it as an agreement.

3. Durham, home of Duke U as well as NCCU
I lived there for about a year. The disparity between wealthy Duke--which pretty much runs that whole area--and poor little NCCU is shameful. NCCU's tiny campus is wall-to-wall buildings--they have used up virtually all of their land. Nice to hear, though, that they are getting to renovate their dorms.

5. Duke is a elite private school
NCCU is a public school. The difference between Duke and NCCU is no different than the difference between Harvard and U. Mass.

4. Having them use the side door was bad enough,
but making them ride in the back of the hotel shuttle is just unacceptable.
