What is the Status of Exit Polling for 2004 Election?
Does anyone know what the status of extensive exit polling will be for the 2004 election? I had heard that the big exit polling consortium was giving up on doing exit polls after the Florida "fiasco." Am I right, or do they or some other consortium plan on doing exit polling in 2004?

With the advent of the new electronic voting machines and no paper trails, I believe extensive exit polling is more important than ever. We must first try to get rid of the damn electronic voting machines and then ensure that paper trails be generated from the machines. If we can't do that, only extensive exit polling will be able to prevent a potential voting catastrophe. In locales where the exit polls are very divergent from the actual election results, the results should be thoroughly investigated. Isn't that the way election monitors in "3rd world countries" ensure accurate election results?

After all, exit polls showed Gore taking Florida in 2000. They were right! Had all votes been counted in Florida, we know Gore would have won. Alas, they were not all counted...

5. remember pollwatch - http://www.pollwatch.org/
http://www.pollwatch.org/

I followed this question after the 2002 debacle. VNS got wound up... and then got resurrected in a new form by several of the same players. I recall stories in the Wash Post on this issue..

6. AP uses "actual" results to make predictions, not exit polling (NT)
