Arianna Nader
yup...I'm drawing the comparison between Arianna and St. Ralph. My point is that they are each following their egos at the expense of the greater good for their supposed constituencies. St. Ralph, of course, rolled out the "Dems=GOP" canard all throughout the 2000 campaign, and now Arianna, in her quixotic campaign in CA, has advised her fans to vote "YES" on the recall...here's her rationale, from her website:

On the other hand, the special circumstances of the recall give progressives and liberals a unique opportunity to elect a governor we can actually stand behind and believe in.

I must say that I admire Arianna for her change in political views over the past 5 years and I think she is an articulate, passionate spokeswoman for the disenfranchised in this country and a much needed vocal critic of the * Administration. However, her craven attempt to win votes by recommending a "YES" vote on the recall is beyond the pale for me. Basically, what she's doing is legitimizing the recall by calling it "a unique opportunity" for some non-politican to win the governor's seat.

NO on the recall/YES on Bustamante. Democracy lives.

1. why is it ALWAYS ego for you people?
If someone disagrees with you, "WELL, they must just be all about themselves"

Maybe the truth is the ego lies in the Democrats who feel entitled to everything.

8. they never whine about st. bill's ego
the ego that led to him to think he could get away with a dalliance in the oval office. you know, the dalliance that cost al gore a bunch of swing voters and a walk-off slam-dunk victory in 2k....

2. Look at the silver lining.
Arianna will siphon votes off of Arnold. Remember Dems are really voting to keep Davis as Governor with the NO vote.

4. She is against the recall....
If people vote yes on the recall, their will be another Gov.
That's where she fits in. I'm voting no on the recall and for Arianna.

5. Because she wants the job
By that rationale, it makes perfect sense why she'd support the recall....Politics is a cut-throat business and we're not exempt from pulling out the knives on our own when the opportunity arises.

And I also second Teriwlliger's point.

7. She won't hurt Bustamante.
We will benefit from her. She will attack the right and say things that a Democrat cannot get away with so easily. She will denounce the recall, urging a NO vote. If Bustamante outlines a progressive agenda, as he is beginning to do, then it is my hope that her and Camejo will endorse him ultimately. We shall see. But I don't think problems on the left are nearly so great as those on the right. After all, what self-respecting "religious conservative, pro-family" voter will support "pro-abortion, pro-sodomite" Arnold? Relax just a bit. Let's put that energy into registering new voters among our targeted constituencies.
