What if Hillary decided to be Dean's/Kerry's/Clark's or ?'s Vice President
Would that be played up as her lying? She has been quite adamant about not running for President but nary a mention about Vice-president. Would that be the thing that wins over fence sitters or would it turn people off?

1. As a New Yorker and as such
one of her constituents, I would be very angry and her breaking her word to serve her full term. My entire family worked on her campaign and I can tell you, they would all be pissed off. NYers can put up with a lot but DON'T LIE TO US!!! If she wants to return to the White House, she's going to have to wait or I can be reasonably sure she wont even carry New York.

2. All of sudden, everyone's talking about Hillary
running for higher office in 2004, even though there is not one fact to support the idea. It's sort of like the way other topics, like gay marriage, abortion, etc seem to pop up around election-time.

12. Its rumors that is put out primarily by the repugs.
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 10:49 AM by liberalnurse
They continue to attack us by instigating party confusion, anger and evoking division amongst ourselves.

Speculation, rummors, gossip... all unfounded chatter but then you think " maybe could be true." Now were off track...it works. Here we are awfulizing or sizing up the possibility. They are manipulating us.

We need to take a deep breath, think and wait for facts. keep on task with our goal, to evict the resident and support our Presidential candidate. Do not take the bait.

Don't give the control.

17. Interesting, I hadn't thought of that
But it makes sense that the Republicans would want to replace the Dean headlines on Drudge with a banner about Hillary.

3. Not a good idea
Even showing up on the ticket as VP would be spun as a lie. It would undermine her credibility which she needs for a future run.

By not running, and publicly announcing that she is keeping her word to the people of New York, she can contrast her integrity with that of the Bush administration and be very helpful to the party.

4. I would hope Dean/Kerry/Clark would be smarter than that
Why bring on yourself all the Clinton bashing and baggage that would go with naming her as your VP choice?

I like her, but for now we need to be smart and get the WH back.

I'm starting to think we have a monarchy here in the US - only Bushes and Clintons can serve in the WH.

With the millions of citizens we have and the hundreds of pols can't we have a fresh face?

Can't we get someone to replace him? When you are the best you get the attention.

6. You fell right into it
Is there any evidence that Dean/Kerry/Clark, or even Hillary herself, is considering Hillary for VP? Any evidence at all?

It was simply a question I threw out for discussion, or is it your wish to inhibit discussion?

27. The "censorship" ploy
Yeah, I know! You were just asking an innocent question and I'm out to censor you.

I guess you're the one who gets to decide what we can discuss. The next time *I* want to discuss how innocent questions (which coincidentally gets asked repeatedly all at once while at the same time being discussed by the media) plays into Rove's hand, I'll ask for your permission first

No woman can be elected at this time. Too many men, would not accept it. Plus, Hillary has too much baggage.

10. Specious question
She can't "decide," she has to be asked to be the running-mate by whoever wins the nomination. And she's not going to be asked. Each of our front-runners has a perceived weakness as a candidate, one which will have to be filled in by an extraordinarily prudent choice for VP. Hillary doesn't fill in the gaps for any of these guys. The only reason to choose her would be for the sensationalism, and it's pretty obvious that the negative backlash would far outweigh whatever media traction was gained by monopolizing the headlines for a week.

Hillary's great, I can see her running for pres in '12 (PLEASE stop saying '08, Hillary fans... our guy is going to win in '04 and serve two full terms!). I think by then there will be enough distance and perspective on Monicagate and Whitewatergate and enough of the evidence will be out regarding the GOP's campaign to annihilate the Clinton family that she could probably win.

But not this year, it ain't gonna happen.

By the way, has anyone known to be sane by conventional standards suggested that she might get tapped for VP? I certainly haven't heard this.

11. Not gonna happen
I think the resurgence of Hillary speculation is the media attempting to spin attention away from (a) Dean's successful campaign and (b) Dubya's disastrous Residency.

Remember how much they gushed about Cuomo, eons ago?

13. This whole thing started in a Richard Reeves column
and there was an MSNBC correspondent saying something about it on Drudge last night. I just can't see how she could or would run now, even if Bush is increasingly vulnerable. Maybe some people in her camp want her to (perhaps her husband even) but I don't think she will. I like her but now is not the time.

Why is that? Because George Pataki will appoint a Republican to replace her if she wins. Basta. Want a senator for VP? Find one (1) in a state with a Democratic governor and (2) isn't running for re-election in '04. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
