Yesterday, I posted an e-mail from my state senator that originated with the county republican chair. It falsely claimed (citing non-existent "news") that the ACLU wanted to remove crosses from federal property, and displayed a picture of what appeared to be Arlington National Cemetary.
I issued a reply to all on the cc list pointing out that the claim was false and that the ACLU had actually fought against the removal of religious symbols from cemetaries. I also added a comment about Aschroft working to destroy civil liberties, while the ACLU was a real defender of freedom. The correspondence continued today:
County Pary Chair: ----------------- While I appreciate your response, I would point out that if you are saying that the aclu is a great organization that is your opinion. But to me that is like saying Hitler did good things too, He put everyone back to work! Looking at the ACLU web page we see their hot topics.... Gay equality... Has destroyed one Christian Organization of over 2.5 million, Second topic Defending abortion, Killing of innocent Children while still in their mothers womb, yet fighting against Capital punishment... answer me this... what heinous crime did the unborn child commit to be sentenced to death?, Affirmative action...elevating one group over another through preferential treatment... now that's justice. No the harm done, like with Hitler or Stalin, far outweighs any good done by the ACLU. Their rise has resulted in the downfall of the America as a nation of values, morals, and Principals. They have made a mockery of our Constitution, and those who wrote, they have tried to legislate from the bench, instead of the enforcing the will of the people. I'd say we must agree to disagree.
Me: --------- Typical cowardly response to a failed argument. Instead of responding to the issue of the lies in the original message -- change the subject. There is no defense of the original accusations against the ACLU, no explanation of why false information was disseminated, and no admission that the original message was in error. No acknowledgement that the ACLU actually defended religious symbols in cemeteries, and no response to the unprecedented attacks on civil liberties by Adolph, er, I mean John Ashcroft. Can't wait until the adults are back in charge.
