Anyone have long distance from "Working Assets"?
If so, what do you think about its service, etc.

1. I do--have had it for years and years.
It's just great and every time some other phone company calls to get my long-distance service I explain that there is no way I would ever leave WALD and then I explain why. The operators are usually speechless. :-)

2. Ditto
Everything barbarann just said. I love telling telemarketers why I'm not interested in their long distance service.

3. They're awesome.
And it IS great to explain to telemarketers why you won't switch!

We've been using WALD for about 4 years now and have never had any problems.

And you always get great book suggestions and opportunities to send citizen letters. I just can't say enough about this company!

10. But I don't explain about WALD to telemarketers ...
instead I wxplain to them why I refuse to listen to telemarketers, how I'm on the do-not-call list, and how they should never, ever call me back again.

"But we can save you money! Don't you want to save money?"
Well, it's not only about the money.

17. save me money?
I try not to be rude to telemarketers, because I know none of them would be working that job if they could get anything else. But, if one gets pushy and says something like, "But, don't you want to save money?" I have found it very effective to reply, "Actually, no. You see, I as so rich that money means nothing to me." There is usually a long moment of silence after that, at which time I say "Thanks anyway" and hang up.

29. I have it, with no trouble
Have had it for years. Got the same response as MGKrebs, "You don't want to save money?" To which I said "No" Duhhh.... We don't use much long distance to begin with, so honestly, I really don't care if it 2 cents cheaper for ATT. Plus, I like the rounding up feature, the book list, and all that.

5. I had it for years and loved the service and information.
I received a pre paid phone card as a gift, and now I only use that (so inexpensive.) But I agree with everything stated above.

7. Yes, for 10 years
And I have enjoyed a few pints of Ben & Jerry's because of referrals I have given them.

I have had one really bad experience, and that was when I out of town and tried to charge a directory assistance call to my WALD home number. WALD (or Sprint, I'm not sure which) used a third-party provider for this call. That third-party provider (started with an O, I remember) showed up on my Southwestern Bell line bill, and billed me almost $7.00 for that directory assistance call. That sucked, and I would suggest that no one ever do that.

12. That DA Charge Was Not from Working Assets
If it makes you feel any better, the $7 charge as you described it had nothing to do WA LD. It was carried by whatever carrier was assigned to the phone you placed the call from. Payphones, for example, usually have expensive operator services companies handle their traffic.

8. Too Expensive
They haven't really been participating in the rate wars (.07/min, last time I checked), and while I'd rather give my money to them as opposed to, say, MCI, there are other small resellers that offer more competitive rates - like Pioneer Telephone (.03/min).

You can still contribute to the great causes that Working Assets sponsors - even more so with the money you save.

I do miss the free Ben & Jerry's every month, tho.

20. Jeb just let the phone folks raise their rates here.
Not sure how it works yet, but it will affect us for sure. I think they can just keep raising rates.

He vetoed it last year before elections, but they rushed it through right after.

So high rates may not matter here soon.

9. I have it and like it.
They used to send coupons for free half-pints of Ben & Jerry's -- I don't know what happened with that. They also contribute to good causes, including antiwar billboards.

11. I got them this year, and I like them
It was fun to throw over WorldCom - and when they call to ask why, I really enjoy telling them.

It is also cheaper. I enjoy calling my friends who live far away now.

13. I've had them for a little over a year, and I love them!
The $0.07/minute rate isn't that great, but they can't be beaten as far as the activism alerts and charitable contributions go!

The don't call with "offers" like the others.

I can send letters to congress every month.

I have used it for 5+ years and just switched
to it for cell phone also.

16. Yes !!
I switched about 3 years ago, and have gotten at least 10 other people to switch. If you really work at it, you might can save a dollar or two each month with one of the huge telecom companies, but the Working Assets bill is one that I actually enjoy paying each month.

22. Had it for years
Though I didn't phone long distance all that often. Actually, it's been a few years since I've called long distance, having no one any longer to ring up. Before the telemarketers began ringing my phone literally every 15 minutes forcing me to turn off the ringer and let the answering machine take calls, I'd explain that they donated money to good causes. And the customers were able to vote on the causes.

30. Free calls to your congressmen
Yes, they are free.

We've had WALD for a few years now and we absolutely love it. I look forward to recieving my phone bill and I voluntarily give them more money than they ask me for. Not many companies garner that kind of support from their customers.

:-)

24. Yes!
Working Assets is great. Customer service is always friendly and helpful and good stuff like that. And don't forget the free Ben & Jerry's! ;)

A friend of mine is using them for his wireless service now, too... and recommends it. I've got a prepaid phone (thanks to screwing up my credit in my days of extreme irresponsibility), so that's not an option for me.

I had their service for a month, and it was pretty cheap, and got a free ben and jerry's half pint. But then AT+T Offered me $40 dollars to switch, and I'm moving in a month, so I took the check. I'll be using them as my long distance service in my new house, though.

Not a tiny company. Not many know that, and think they're switching away from Sprint. On the other hand, lots of pro-lie groups *hate* Sprint and WA.
