The Neocons New Enemy: The CIA
The CIA (news - web sites) is a rogue institution. It undermines national security. It was dishonest about the threat from Iraq (news - web sites). It hid the truth from the American public. It has plotted against other parts of the government. It has betrayed the country.

Thats not the latest lefty screed against the spooks. This critique is the central point of a new book written by a darling of the neoconservative claque running much of President Bushs foreign policy. In Bush vs. the Beltway, Laurie Mylroie, an adjunct fellow at the Washington-based American Enterprise (news - web sites) Institute (neocon HQ), offers a jaccuse-like indictment summed up by this slim volumes subtitle: How the CIA and the State Department Tried To Stop the War on Terror. Mylroie charges that a conspiracy of head-in-the-sand intelligence analysts and dont-rock-the-boat foreign service apparatchiks covered up, ignored and dismissed evidence that Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) orchestrated the 9/11 attacks and that al Qaeda has been a front for Iraqi intelligence. Moreover, she claims that midlevel CIA bureaucrats no names, of course were able to thwart Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites), Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and others from presenting the best possible case for war against Iraq.

3. Well, good.
If they are enemies with the CIA, then they aren't using it to overthrow any OTHER countries.

6. i wouldn't be so sure
As far as i can tell there are neocon loyals in the CIA. The field agents are not CIA office guys; a few neocon CIA suits could recruit agents to blow up a car in front of some mosque in order to create division within the muslim community. The CIA does do that sort of thing (churches in Venezuela), but a significant part the CIA might not be willing to do such a thing for this president.
I think there is great conflict within the CIA right now. Gives a new meaning to "spy vs spy".

4. exit CIA, enter OSP
The neocon loyals in the CIA can move over to the Rummy's very own Office of Special Plans, and that bunch of amateurs can start doing more than just use their special selection skills on intelligence: they will be the new international covert ops organization. If the CIA made a mess of things on more then a few occasions, the OSP will probably cause the end the world.
If the neocons get their way.

Of course the real problem for the neocons is that the CIA is not as loyal to them as they hoped, in spite of installing one of their own as top man and Cheney personally putting pressure on them to make the 'right' selections of intelligence.

7. If she's the "darling of the neocons"
then she's probably as big an idiot as the rest of them. Let's see, an AEI fellow. Figures. Admired by Perle, Wolfie, and Woolsey. Feh! Co-authored a book with Judith Miller, the Chalabi groupie. What an "impressive" resume!

8. Not a good idea to mess with the CIA
I still say to this day that the CIA was at least partially involved in JFK's assassination as retribution for trying to dissolve the agency.

9. Historical comparisons
1945: Hitler messing with Stalin
1800's: Napoleon meeting his Waterloo
1st Century A.D.: Caesar taking on God
2003: Neocons messing with the CIA

Not a very good idea.

11. RE:Hitler messing with:
"Night of the Long Knives"

The Blood Purge is also known as the Night of the Long Knives. The night was a brutal and swift purge of the Nazi party, particularly focussing on the removal of any threats to Hitler's personal power from within the SA.

On the night of 30th June 1934 Hitler ordered the SS and the gestapo to round up and imprison or kill the leaders of the SA, the nazi parties oldest and most powerful group which had acted as the leaderships bodyguards since the parties inception and throughout it's rise to power.

The Purge was neccessary to prevent the party suffering from internal divisions. the leadership of the SA had a different political agenda to that of the party hierarchy. Ernst Rohm, the head of the SA was an advocate of absorbing the armed forces into the SA, he was more radical in many respects than Hitler and in doing so had created rifts between hitler and many of the parties supporters.

Conservative follwers of the party were concerned by the rhetoric and actions of the SA, who were oposed to a return of the 'Old order'. The generals were clearly going to be upet by rohm's insistence on the army being absorbed into the SA and other members of the party leadership were becoming inceasingly suspicious of the power and influence of Rohm and other senior figures within the organisation.

The solution was simple. erradicate the problem through use of force, these men were a threat to the stability of the party and posed a direct threat to Hitler's position as leader of the Party and the country.

10. So does this mean that Poppa Bush's ties to the CIA have been severed?
The CIA, like the Pentagon seem to work for the ruling elite. So maybe the Bush dynasty has fallen from grace in those circles. Don't know....but if the CIA was REALLY miffed it sure seems like at least some of the Bush Crime Family might have been their victim by now.

Who does the CIA really take their orders from? I wonder....
