Why the USA (or Israel) will not attack Iraq or North Korea
As we can all see now with 20/20 hindsight, Bush and his minions knew for a fact that Iraq for all intensive purposes had already been disarmed. The US and its coalition of idiots would never have attacked otherwise. If there had been even the slightest bit of intelligence suggesting Iraq may have had a nuclear weapon or some other means of killing thousands of American soldiers that country would have been off the list for attack. The US does not ever attack someone who has the slightest chance of winning unless we are attacked first. Look back through our history and try and find a country which we picked a fight with that was capable of inflicting serious damage to America and yet we still attacked them. It has never happened. We could have even won in Vietnam if we were willing to use the destructive capabilities available to us. But we didn't. Why was that? Because America was afraid that doing so could have quickly led to a chain of events that could have brought about the end of our country and perhaps the world. An example would have been if we had nuked Hanoi and then China or Russia had nuked Saigon. What could have come next? I think you all know what could have come next. And it would not have been pretty.

Bush and his minions had planned that once we had made an example of big bad Iraq by winning with ease the other spokes of his "axis of evil" (N. Korea and Iran) would have capitulated and have quickly seen things our way. That is not what happened though. The USA quickly discovered that even a vanquished army who plays their cards right can make things very difficult in the longer run if they choose to. Very difficult.

So now Bush and his minions are screwed. They have gotten themselves involved in an unwinnable morass, that there is only two choices out of. Either keep the majority of our military in Iraq chasing ghosts as our soldiers are dying and being mutilated, or turn tail and run like hell. Neither of which are very good choices I might add.

So now we have two countries who seem to be building up their nuclear weapons just as fast as they can while we are counting up our dead and wounded in Iraq which was never a threat at all. And now we can't attack either N. Korea or Iran because we don't have the soldiers to do the job. And we can't try "Shock and Awe" on them either because there are too many variables involved. First we don't know for sure that they don't have some crude nuclear devices. Not something that has been miniaturized small enough to fit on a ICBM. But there is a damn good chance that they do have something that could be loaded into a bomber and destroy our entire naval fleet in the area. And yes, soon they will have advanced to the point of nukes mounted on ICBM's. But thanks to the idiots in charge who thought they were smarter than everyone else, there won't be a damn thing we can do about it. Nothing accept watch like spectators.

Countries that have been strong allies of America for decades no longer trust our country. And that does not just go for Bush and his crew either. They don't trust the American people on the whole either after watching us (thats you and me) sit back as our government broke international agreement after international agreement and the majority of Americans still love their president. It must be amusing to look at our country from other countries who most of the world once considered was made up of good and decent people making complete fools of ourselves on the world stage.

All of those preemptive strike plans that Bush and his minions were so proud only months ago are now nothing more than piles of war plans that will gather dust in the corner of someones office until the cleaning lady gets tired of dusting them and throws them out with the rest of the trash.

1. As a Canadian
I can assure you it's not in the least amusing...it's sad.

And somewhat scary...since nobody knows what he's going to do for an encore.

3. Weirdest subject line I ever read. Really.
I'm picturing tiny Israel attacking large, heavily populated North Korea.

And, of course, Israel has hordes of soldiers ready to march anywhere, and the money to pay for them. Yes, indeedy.

Why is it that Israel seems to be the size of China in so many minds?

Have nannies been scaring children with the Star of David?

4. Really
Israel 'would bomb Iran nuclear plant'

http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_814399.html

Israel has made plans to bomb an Iranian nuclear power plant if it begins producing weapons grade material, it was reported today.

Military commanders have mapped out a route Israeli fighter jets would take to destroy the Bushehr reactor on the Persian Gulf, officials told the Washington Times.

Russia has been helping Iran to build its first nuclear plant for eight years in a deal worth about £500 million to Moscow.

Both countries say it is purely for civilian purposes.

6. The really sad thing is that both Iran and N Korea
were mellowing a little, showing signs of willingness to talk. But with all the aggro and threats BushCo* throw around, who can blame them if they don't trust us even a little (no one else in the world does either).

I am sick thinking about Iraq and dreading what new horror will be in the news tomorrow. But if it stops the US from moving along on schedule to attack other nations, well--at least that isn't bad. I have ZERO regrets that an attack on N Korea is unlikely (and only hope it is true). The only reason N Korea thinks it needs nukes is to defend against the US--there aren't any other enemies now in their neighborhood. And I'm not one of those who believe the propaganda about Kim Jong-il being crazy. If anyone's crazy in all this, it's the US. But I repeat myself--I find I keep saying the same things....

But it's interesting. Even on DU, though most people saw through the Iraq propaganda, an awful lot of people believe every word the neo-cons spin about N Korea. If you're interested in some balance, there's a good site put together by Selig Harrison with proposals for dealing with N Korea. These people have expertise and wisdom, but even they couldn't get the ear of the WH--oh, well. These papers and proposal were published in May. Still informative, though:
