Interesting talk with a wingnut neighbor today at the store...
He thinks Shrub is doing a great job in Iraq and is making progress
in "running down the terists" who are killing our troops.

Conversation went roughly like this:

Me: "So the Iraqis shooting at our soldiers are terrorists?"

Him: "Of course, we're there to bring democracy to their country."

Me: "What did you think of Clinton?"

Him: "I hate the Clintons. He was a disgrace to the presidency."

Me: "So, you supported the impeachment and you wanted to get rid of him?"

Him: "Damn right, I wanted him out any way possible."

Me: "Okay, here's something I want you to answer: Let's say it's 1997. You hate Clinton. And suppose for the sake of argument that
the premier of China, I can't recall who it was then, but just say this guy hates Clinton as much as you do. Or pick another country and leader if you want...okay?"

Him: "Okay, go on..."

Me: "So this other leader decides that our President (Clinton who you hate) is a dangerous despot who needs to be removed (by any means, as you just agreed with.) And he sends his military to invade Washington and bomb the White House or any other places he thinks Clinton might be hiding. Is this okay with you?"

Him: "Well, uh, that's different. I have to get home."

1. I love it.
It goes to their crazyness with the war and to a lesser extent to their crazyness abouut impeachment.

2. Thats just the tip of the iceberg
Suppose China's troops, while looking for Clinton, invade your town and break into your house. They tear the place up. They even kill a few of your neighbors in gunfights. Now, you are probably angry. But if you defend yourself, you will be either killed or detained and tried as a war criminal in a military tribunal. Would that make you a Cinton loyalist?

3. If he hadn't run away, that would of course been my next avenue of inquiry
;-)

Actually, I shouldn't even use a smiley...
