George Bush said : " A marriage should be between a man and a woman".
Was that simple statement meant to be controversial and political? Or did anyone even notice? Did it really make any difference in the election?

3. should be.
It sounds like the statement is some distant dream. It's a lie by implication.

5. Sympathy cards for Republicans who lost their family in Iraq
1) The newswires frequently publish lists of soldiers who were killed in Iraq.
2) Voter registration lists are public domain.
3) Check the lists of war dead against voter registration lists, and find the ones with Republican family members.
4) Send condolence cards.

Here's an example:
"I am sorry that a good Republican like you had to lose their son in Iraq. But you can take solace that he died free of gay marriage. Enjoy your four more years of Bush. I hope this is what you wanted. You have my condolences, and I hope the other 49% of us have yours."

Yes, I know. I'm an asshole.

4. If you threaten Paternalist Society, then the fundamentalist evangelicals
come out to vote in Ark-Loads.

It was the intent of the bush administration to change the topic from reality to something new, something that would mobilize ignorant voters on his behalf.

It was clearly political and intended to be controversial.

6. Aren't most of the biblical marriages plural?
Aren't the Mormons the ones following the Bible?
Seriously.

8. Well, Santorum did muddy the concept a bit
caterwauling about marrying a dog or your mom. Bush had to clear it up for the idiot hordes.

10. Well...
there is nothing illegal about a gay man marrying a straight woman, a gay woman marrying a straight man, or a gay man marrying a gay woman.

So technically gays can already get married, just not to the same sex.

12. the anti gay crap helped get the Republican base out
but in the end what hurt Kerry the most was the fear mongering. the crap about how there will be other 9/11s if Kerry gets into office. they especially made use of the russian school hostage thing to appeal to women voters. while Kerry did very well among younger and single women, he lost some of the older married women with children.

kerry did have momentum from the debates, but the final days of the campaign was filled with bin laden type and other fear mongering. when people are scared they vote for whoever is the most hawkish to defend them.

13. Kerry wasn't tough enough
Kerry (as far as I remember) did NOT say:

1)The people who attacked us on 9-11 had close business ties to Bush

2) Bush knew the attack was going to happen, and did nothing about it.

3) Did Kerry mention "The Pet Goat"? I think he might have.
