Dem ahead in possible NY Gov. Race
And Their Off! 2006 (Speculation and Prognostication Begins With Gesticulation in the Empire State)
(from www.otterblog.com)
The NY Times reported on the intention of Democratic New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer to run for governor ... in 2006; attesting to the fact that it's never too early to prepare to unseat an incumbent.

Currently a Quinnipiac poll shows Spitzer leading Gov. George Pataki, 50%-38% (if Pataki runs). This would certainly put a damper on Pataki's possible presidential ambitions.

The poll also shows Colin Powell ahead of Spitzer 47%-42%. Powell's name has also been mentioned for a Senate run against Sen. Hillary Clinton in '06. New York is quickly shaping up to be a leading indicator for political trends in 2006 and possibly 2008.

Background information on Spitzer can be found at the Washington Times.
