The moderators asked the most inane questions. No research. They did not even appear to understand what they were talking about.
This is what was presented.
There is nothing pressingly wrong about social security. Won't be for forty years if the economy stays in the crapper. At that time, it will be broke.
Social Security is a partisan issue, a Democratic sacred cow. Democrats want it, Republicans do not. It will be the issue of 2006 when the nation, which is more Republican, will vote even more senators in privatize social security. (What about the Republicans that work jobs that have no retirement plan? They don't want social security? I don't know. Nobody asked.)
The AARP would have been a formidable foe, but Bushco has bought them off promising no cuts in benefits for those over 55. (What cuts are planned for those under 55? I don't know. Nobody asked.)
If you invest in the Stock Market and Mutual Funds, you will have lots and lots of retirement money. (What about all those people who are now saying their 401Ks and Simple IRAs are worth half what they once were? All those people who invested in mutual funds in the 60's to see them wiped out in the 70's. I don't know. Nobody asked.)
What safety net will be available should the Stock Market tank? (I don't know. Nobody asked.)
Privatizing will be voluntary. You can if you want. (Will those that elect to remain with social security see the same cuts those that privatize will? I don't know. Nobody asked.)
This is the new partisan issue. Strange...until today, I never knew it was a partisan issue.
I thought CNN was a mouthpiece for the Republicans, but I have revised my opinion. They're just dumb.
