"The Passion" Gets Shut Out of The Golden Globes
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 02:18 PM by Yavin4
But, "Kinsey", "Sex and the City", and "Will and Grace" all receive nominations for Best Picture and Best Comedy Shows respectively. Gee, do you think that the right wing media will go into over-drive about this? Nah...

--On Edit--
Mods, I know that this seems like a Lounge post, but "The Passion" getting shut out will definitely mean that the right wing media will use this to promote conservative talking points.

4. The Passion is a foreign language film...don't know how it could have
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 02:22 PM by RUDUing2
recieved a nomination....not that the RWM will let logic stand in the way of a good spinsanity...

also they are kindof hogtied on complaining cause 9/11 didn't even make the cut for consideration...whereas The Passion did (as a best foreign film candidate)...

9. But It Didn't Get Nominated in That Category Either
Although, "Motorcycle Diaries" (the story about the youth of Che) was nominated. Hang onto your boots folks. Fox News will go 24/7 over this.

13. nope but it was included in the films eligible for momination..even though
it really did not fit the required criteria (no country of origination and neither language spoken in the film is a *living* language)...so in reality the film shouldn't have been eligible to begin with and voters apparently were better at following the rules then the committee was...

12. Gibson could have been nominated for best Director
and wasn't. Ha! Made my day! I'll never watch another one of his movies. Ever. He and Disney are on my boycott list.

Documentaries (F911) aren't even considered by the Golden Globe. At least that's what some movie critic lady said on MSNBC this morning. F911 will win the People's Choice award though.

I hope the Academy Awards snubs Gibson and his movie too. :grr:

5. Golden Globes run by "foreign press"
and all the foreigners hate Jesus. Pure and simple.

Expect the Oscars to provide plenty of american support: hollywood hates Jesus too, but it worships box office.

15. I doubt it. Hollywood is immoral. Remember?
The Christian Right LOVED Gibson's movie and HATE the "immorality" of Hollywood. I doubt the Hollywood elite will feed the devil with a nomination for Gibson or his movie. I hope they don't.

22. They don't
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 03:18 PM by w4rma
"hate Jesus", they just don't like the fundie "hate people who are different" portrayal of him.

As for this movie, I wish Gibson had been accuate in his portrayal of the Roman occupiers (rather than treating them as they were good guys or neutral) and I wish that Gibson had shown the MESSAGE that Jesus martyred for. The MESSAGE is more important than him dying on the cross. He could have allowed the Sermon on the Mount to be given at the beginning of the film as a good (and hopefully popular) introduction to Jesus.

7. Where's Dawn of the Dead?
When the Passion was the top movie all the pundits were declaring they had taken over Hollywood and America finally got the type of movie that fit middle America. Then Dawn of the Dead knocked it off its first week. America loves Hollywood. Its about entertainment remember. Flesh Eating Zombies beat Jesus.

33. Both movies are for sadists who love to watch people being tortured.
Whether the victim is whipped & beaten to a pulp, or slowly eaten by zombies, it's all the same to that crowd.

14. That's because there's no documentary category for the golden globes.
Not because it just didn't get nominated because it was a crap movie.

19. Honestly, if you ignore the religious adoration, it's a SHITTY film.
I mean. . . It's just not a good movie. Anyone with a decent camera and a few hundred gallons of fake blood could make the same movie.

Awards are given on the merit of the film, not it's subject matter. You don't give a movie an award just 'cause it's about Jesus being tortured.

If the movie wasn't about Jesus, it would have been universally criticized as being a shitty movie.

21. If it hadn't been about Jesus, it wouldn't have gotten that R rating
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 03:14 PM by CornField
What other movie with so much violence would be given an R rating? The only thing that saved this from being NC-17 was the fact that it was a Biblically based story.

I say let's make it a trend and make films of all the desolation, violence and cruelty in the Bible.

Edited for my crappy spelling today... UGH!

31. Globes needs a new catagory: Best picture for torture loving sadists...
...sadists who hide their disgusting blood lust under the guise of Christian demagoguery.

I'm sure the Oscars will ignore this torture movie too. There are more progressives in the Academy than there are in Gov. Arnold's worst nightmares.

36. It's a snuff movie...
...that glorifies sadistic torture. If that's what you love best about Jesus, go for it. I would rather spend my time reading "red letter" sayings of Jesus (historically accurate).

39. No
It's a well-done rendition of the Stations of the Cross. It seems a lot of people were too freaked out by the gore to notice the Sermon on the Mount flashback in the middle of the crucifixion.

Showing violence and glorifying it are not at all the same thing.
