US Says: Allawi Is a Lock to Rule Iraq! Have You Seen Him Travel?

This is how Allawi Gets around Iraq, with US tax paid mercenaries. Don't you think Iraqis just love this? LOL! The leaders in this country are so far out of touch. Perhaps they are installing DREs from Diebold and that is why he will win? Oh wait, there is no electricity for electronic voting machines. Silly me!

Allawi Front Runner to Lead Iraq After Election

Fri Dec 17, 9:27 AM ET Top Stories - Reuters

By Khaled Yacoub Oweis

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi may return to power with American blessing after next month's election, even if he does not score a major victory at the ballot box.

Iraqi officials say it is too early to predict who will be the country's next prime minister, but privately suggest that Allawi, a secular Shi'ite heading a list that includes several ministers from the U.S.-backed government, is considered the front runner if he wins a seat in the new National Assembly.

Allawi's return could mean more use of force to try to crush Sunni Muslim rebels and an economic policy that seeks production sharing deals with foreign firms to develop Iraq (news - web sites)'s oil fields.

1. Puppets don't lose elections when the occupiers are on the scene.
As long as Allawi has US troops to enforce his power, he's not going anywhere--sham election or not.

2. He's already been voted in!
There's only the silly semantics of gathering up the votes from the populace to take to a safe place to be disposed of.

Reporters Scared for Lives as Allawi Announces Candidacy

NEW YORK Make of it what you will, but this is how The New York Times described what happened Wednesday in Baghdad when interim Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi announced his candidacy in the January elections:

"Dr. Allawi's campaign started on an unpropitious note, when American and Iraqi forces closed off sections of central Baghdad so he could leave the Green Zone and cross the Tigris River to declare his candidacy at a sports club. But Western reporters judged the three-mile journey to be too hazardous in the bus provided by Allawi aides, and remained behind.

"Five hours later, he stood before fewer than 60 people, about half of whom were his own aides. With American bodyguards in flak jackets and cradling automatic weapons patrolling the club's auditorium, Dr. Allawi read a brief statement and returned hastily to the Green Zone."

The account was written by John F. Burns and Robert F. Worth, though it's unclear which, if either, made it to the press conference, and how.
