Schools appointee blasted for SCV ties
A group of Upstate ministers has called for a high-ranking member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans to be removed from the state Board of Education.
The 11-member task force of Anderson ministers is among the first civic groups to call for Ron Wilson's removal since he was appointed to the board by the Anderson County legislative delegation earlier this month.

"Am I a real conservative? Yeah, I am," Wilson said. "Do I support the Christian worldview of things? Yes, I do. I make no apology for any of that."
Task force members said Wilson does not have a track record of supporting public education and questioned his affiliation with the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Wilson served as commander of the group from 2002 to 2004; he is now listed as a field operations director on the group's Web site.

Wilson also said: "a background in education is not necessary for appointment to the board.
"If we only elect people to the school board that have some background in education, we're allowing the whole process to become stale, with very few new ideas," he said.
