Let's suck it up and get after them
I wrote this in response to another thread this morning, and in a moment of hubris decided it needed to be said again. It's as good a summary as I can make about why I'm NOT leaving the democratic party, not now or ever.

We've taken a shot in the eye. Democrats and democracy and the free world and the Iraqis and freedom and liberty and our civil rights and our wealth and prestige in the world....

Damn... It was a big friggin' shot in the eye, and I want to cry, too. Shit, I've got two little girls and a boy on the way and I want to just take them out of the country and live somewhere like New Zealand or Australia or Canada or Mexico or the UK. I mean, I want to live in a free country, too, Okay?

But this is our friggin' country. My family has been here on both sides since before the Revolution (not that there aren't lots of immigrants in the respective woodpiles). We fought on both sides of the civil war and my grandfather got a battlefield commission in the Pacific Theatre.

I'm not leaving. My family's blood is in this soil, and I may not be rich and I may not be 'important' in the scheme of things, but I'm going to suck it up and keep fighting.

And get this straight, too, defeatists and trolls out there. I'm fighting to win. I don't mean fighting hard or dedicated in some damn lost cause, I mean fighting to win and I will win.

But I need the help of all of my fellow dems, because I've got two little girls and I want them to grow up in a free country. That's a promise I made them, you see?

SO SUCK IT UP AND HELP ME, DAMN IT! This is the fight of our lives, and it will require dedication and every ounce of care you can put into it.

We need each other. This is nothing less than a fight for our freedoms, a fight for the very soul of the United States of America.

BE INSPIRED! BE ENTHUSIASTIC! BE CONFIDENT IN VICTORY!

Our future lies in progressive, forward thinking. But more than that, it lies in ACTION. Give of your talents and treasures. Run for office. Support progressive candidates. Don't give up and don't leave.

1. Goddamn Right
I am so glad to see someone that feels the way I do. I ain't never gonna stop fighting these bastards. I will not submit. I will not quit. I may not be much in the big scheme of things but, goddamn it, I am sick and tired of the way this country is going. I'm standin' up for America.

3. You expressed my feelings, too
I have two kids also. I'm going to keep fighting for them. If enough people dig in their heels, maybe things will become somewhat more sane again.

4. Not giving up, not leaving. But I feel so bad today. Maybe it's
the media attention on CBS, or the email from BouncyBall's ex-friend talking about nuking Iraq(sorry I don't know how to link the thread - I'm computer illiterate). And Khephra's passing, ugh. Just feeling really, really bad today.

5. I don't know if this will help your mood or not, but
When watching news coverage last night of the latest setbacks in Iraq, I started to think maybe it's best Bush won. Now the whole mess is his. I just can't see anything good coming out of Iraq -- some of the worst case scenarios are truly horrendous. I'd bet my house and all my worldly assets that the Republicans would have blamed "the loss in Iraq" on Kerry. Fine, they started it, now they can figure out what the heck to do with it.

So too with the economy. All the cheap money (courtesy of Greenspan) and the influx of cash due to tax cuts is only putting off the day of reckoning. I don't think they can keep up the balancing act for 4 more years. When the economy comes crashing down, it's going to be on Bush's head.

Not the least bit cheery since the consequences of both above will be terrible. I'm of the opinion that it was too late in the game for Kerry to have done anything to prevent either, however. If they were going to happen anyway, at least Kerry's not holding the bag and, perhaps, the country will wake up to what's been going on.

On that depressing note, I'll let you get back to your bad mood.

PS I saw that Bouncy Ball/nuking Iraq post, too. Scary that anybody could think that way.

Short linking lesson (just learned it myself). When you're at the post you want to copy, left-click on the address thing (http:) - it should get highlighted in blue when you do it. Then go to "Edit" on top left of screen and select "copy". Then use the backspace key to go back to the place you want to post it. Once you get there, click on Edit again and select "paste".

6. Sounds like you are in kind of a depressed mood, too...
Thanks for the lesson on linking - I'm still a little afraid of my computer, but I'll give it a try.

8. Wasn't until I got on DU!
The warfare on DU between the moderates and progressives gets to me sometimes!!

Anyway, you can test out your linking skills by replying back to this post with something you tried to link. World will still be a mess, but at least you will know that you can link!
