This is probably a repeat, but it is a topic which irks the hell out me. Especially when I see a giant American SUV with a "Support the troops" magnate attached. Yeah, support them, use more gas, further our dependence on non-renewable resources.

My wife mentioned the above topic, she knows two people who bought giant SUVs and got a really big tax credit.

Anyone else pissed about this, again sorry if this is a repeat, I missed it. Also, any DUers have SUVs? If so, what your thoughts on the topic?

1. I couldn't afford one...
and wouldn't want one anyway. I like the Prius. Plus Brad Pitt drives a Prius, so my mind is made up. =)

We have a government run by oil men. That is who they are concerned with.

Never mind that there is far more money in alternative fuels, and that money would for the most part be staying here in this country.

Not to mention eliminating dependance on foriegn fossil fuels or the enviremental concerns it would serve.

Peak oil? What is that?

3. No car at all.
walk, bus, train, and the occasional pick-up.

Didn't Darth Cheney once say Americans should not have to alter their lifestyle when it comes to the environment, gas consumption, and driving 5 ton vehicles to go pick up a pizza three blocks away?

This was about three years ago, when we actually talked about the environment.

4. I'm fortunate to be only 4 miles from work
so I bicycle 90% of the time. From the looks of most American's waistlines - a little more walking would be in order.

5. The whole thing drives me crazy.
Worse are the SUV's with the Kerry/Edward stickers. Forget the Politicians, MSM, advertisers...our own worst enemy is us.

In that way I'm comfortable with our overall disaster. It's consistent with our behavior.
