Is Al Qaeda Just a Bush Boogeyman?
by Robert Scheer, LA Times

"Is it conceivable that Al Qaeda, as defined by President Bush as the center of a vast and well-organized international terrorist conspiracy, does not exist?

To even raise the question amid all the officially inspired hysteria is heretical, especially in the context of the U.S. media's supine acceptance of administration claims relating to national security. Yet a brilliant new BBC film produced by one of Britain's leading documentary filmmakers systematically challenges this and many other accepted articles of faith in the so-called war on terror."

I guess the real journalists are starting to figure the whole scam out...

Finally...

2. Just the fact that the TeeVee always shows the same training video
The one with the Al Queda guys training on the monkey bars, tells me all I need to know. We've been chasing them for 4 years in Afghanistan and all we have is one tape? Yea, right.

Regardless, Bush has succeeded in creating more new terrorists than anyone else in history. It doesn't matter what they're called, they just want to kill in the name of Bush.

I started thinking it was totally bogus when they found the abandoned Al Qaeda office with signage, and the the tape where Osama said Zarqawi is the bureau chief in Iraq didn't do anything to convince me it's not.

7. Oh, so that was just a myth that almost fell on me?
What Bush makes of it and how he sells it is total bullshit. These ridiculous threat colors, shoving a bunch of crap they wanted to pass anyway and calling it a Patriot Act, and dragging us into a war they dreamed of for 10 years.

But behind all the political maneuvering, Al Qaeda is as real as real can get. It's as serious as a cemetery full of friends and don't ever forget that.

10. LOL Al CIA da is as real as the bush regime makes them. Let's see any of
those alleged terrorists who are supposedly out to 'get' us in US custody, right?

Got any on trial? Convicted? Any known terrorists in prison thanks to bush's war on terror?

NOPE.

In fact all those supposed terrorists in gitmo are all walking away scott free lately, aren't' they?

Remember them? Those supposed afghanistan terrorists?

Lies.. damned lies all of them.

It's become inconceivable that they aren't using Al Qaeda as a boogeyman.

It's also become apparent that the goal is to dismantle democracy as it was, or should have been, to be replaced with a new-stlye American Fascism.

Some are slow to learn, aren't they?

27. yes, yes, yes!!!!!!!!!!!!
the first thought that entered my head on 9/11 was: "world trade center, what?"

isn't there something more American to attack in the US other than the world trade center in NY that houses corporations from nearly every other democratic first world country, and some despotic third world countries? why not crash a plane into the statue of liberty, ellis island, the white house, a capital, mount vernon, mount rushmore....or even, Eglin air force base - largest one in the world? a nuclear reactor? fuck, possibilities are endless, but the "terrorists" settled on the one place that had just as many foreign nationals as Americans. odd. you'd think they were trying to get the whole western world behind invading X country or something. nah.

speaking of which, bush's approval ratings seem to be within the 51% to 52% range for two weeks in a row - an osama tape should be showing up any day now.

or does osama just show up when bush falls below 50% approval?

was just a corporate power struggle akin to the Hatfields and the McCoys.

The only problem is the body count is spilling mostly outside of the family and off the mountaintop.

Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 11:19 PM by loindelrio
and disparate group of fanatics who caught a hanging ball and hit a home-run on 9/11. They are now capable of the occasional terror act, and are probably no more of a threat to the average American than the local serial killer. In other words, they are not some real-life SPECTRE.

Unfortunately, the neo-cons used this minimal threat to justify the 'war on terra', a thinly veiled plot to extend control over the world's last remaining concentration of oil reserves. Unfortunately, their misguided action will kill far more Americans than any jihad drunk 'terra' group.

. . .

"Of course, the documentary does not doubt that an embittered, well-connected and wealthy Saudi man named Osama bin Laden helped finance various affinity groups of Islamist fanatics that have engaged in terror, including the 9/11 attacks. Nor does it challenge the notion that a terrifying version of fundamentalist Islam has led to gruesome spates of violence throughout the world. But the film, both more sober and more deeply provocative than Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," directly challenges the conventional wisdom by making a powerful case that the Bush administration, led by a tight-knit cabal of Machiavellian neoconservatives, has seized upon the false image of a unified international terrorist threat to replace the expired Soviet empire in order to push a political agenda."

. . .

"There are dangerous and fanatical individuals and groups around the world who have been inspired by extreme Islamist ideas and who will use the techniques of mass terror — the attacks on America and Madrid make this only too clear. But the nightmare vision of a uniquely powerful hidden organization waiting to strike our societies is an illusion. Wherever one looks for this Al Qaeda organization, from the mountains of Afghanistan to the 'sleeper cells' in America, the British and Americans are chasing a phantom enemy."

. . .

16. Why doesn't it challenge the "fact" that OBL did 9-11. Not a shred of
evidence has ever been produced. We're STILL waiting for the White Papers Tony.

We don't know who did 9-11 because it has never been investigated. There is a whole lot more circumstantial evidence linking the Bush Crime Family to 9-11 than there is evidence linking it to OBL.

Do people STILL believe the nonsense put out by this lying administration?? They were certain it was OBL before the bricks of the WTC hit the ground. NO proof.

32. No, but Al-Zarquai definately is
You can't officially declare someone dead, and then resurrect him to conveniently take the blame for everything that happens in Iraq. How likely is it that one guy is directly responsible for every little firecracker explosion in that country?

Al-Zarquai is a media creation, serving the interests of the Administration. The Administration fosters this myth for two reasons: (1) he gives the American people a single target of anger, deflecting attention from the fact that the insurgency might actually be a groundswell of Iraqi citizens; and (2) he conveniently provides the media an implied link between Iraq and Al Qaeda (first, the media often refers to his group as an "Al Qaeda cell," though there is no directive link; second, a recorded message purportedly from Osama endorsed his actions in Iraq).

34. What, the neocons are lying?
I read this today on The Nation. Quite interesting. They acknowledge that terrorism is real, but this whole notion of a centralized evil empire called Al Qaeda is fiction constructed by neocons to replace the Soviet Union. This is the same group that predicted that the Iraqi people would welcome us with roses and that Hussein was harboring tons of WMDs.

Republicans are like little children, the are afraid all the time, fear those that are different from themselves, and live in a perpetual state of paranoia. The same mind set that brought us the Salem witch trials, the Inquisition, and the McCarthy era. When will the children and their sand box radio bullies be seen for what they are, cowards.
