Limbaugh dumped for liberal show
It is true....
By DANIEL BARLOW Southern Vermont Bureau

BRATTLEBORO — A southern Vermont-based radio station will trade in the rhetoric of Rush Limbaugh and other conservative talk show hosts for the liberal commentary of Air America next week.

WKVT-AM 1490 in Brattleboro will replace four of its weekday syndicated conservative talk shows on Jan. 17 with programs from the fledgling liberal radio network Air America, which launched in March.

The station will be the second in Vermont to broadcast Air America programs, which include shows hosted by comedian Al Franken and actress Jeanne Garofalo.

The Brattleboro area is highly liberal in its political beliefs and the Air America shows will be a better fit for the station's listeners than the conservative programs hosted by Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly, said WKVT program director Peter Case.

"We're calling this a right-to-left switch," he said. "For many years, our programming leaned to the right, but Brattleboro is a very liberal area and our lineup had to reflect that."

And I didn't want to move to Vermont, maybe that needs further thought.

5. It's no crime that he's drug-addicted, but
it is a crime that he advocated the death-penalty (? I think) for those who used drugs. It's his hypocrisy about the whole thing that makes him a jerk, not the fact that he has an addiction problem.

Nonetheless, he's a moran and I'm glad to see his show get replaced with AAR.

9. That's my point.
It's the hypocrisy that makes him a piece o' shit.
I've also heard that he was once arrested for soliciting a male prostitute. Being gay is not a crime; soliciting prostitutes is.

I look forward to the day I can finally move to Vermont - visit the area every year. They have some of the finest artisans in the country.

7. didn't want to move to VT???
oh for shame- one of the few (if not the only) state where you can sit in and give your opinion on any bill before the legislature, where you can talk to the Gov. on any given day he's there, introduce your own bills. There are only 600,000 people in the state = unfettered access to gov't. And we don't like the feds. Our republican governor (yup thats what i said) and our house and senate which are 75% dems, are constatnly sueing the feds over the environment. Our major general of the national guard is in DC right now to protest the unlimited extentions of national guard deployments.

Oh yea, did ya hear that one, bush wants to extend a deployment of national guard troops to two years with an UNLIMITED amount of deployments.

Vermont is what america used to be

12. And, according to The Nation,
Vermont is also where there's a serious secession movement brewing led by people who want Vermont to secede from the USA and want neighboring states to consider it also.

Of course, some wag wrote in that they have it backward, that what we really should do is go back to 1860 and allow the South to go its own merry way like it originally wanted desperately to do, but that's another thread!

16. actually
the movement was with Quebec, they wanted to sescede from Canada and form an independant province with Vermont sesceding from the US. Ethen Allen never wanted to join with the colonies but was forced to.

18. No, no, I meant
that there's a current secession movement in Vermont that's apparently gaining steam. Seriously.

19. not that i've heard
I'm here everyday- im connected with the media, i hear from many different politicians, I'm a musician that plays the bar curcuit, I've not heard anyone in many, many bars, ever mention it, I'm in contact with college-age locals- things like that never cross their mind, I know numerous restaurant and bar owners who bitch about the taxes but don't think of sussesion. I even know some hard core progressives and it's not on their mind.

The vermont mindset is that we are already separate from the states. Most of the rest of the country can't handle being here for more than a weekend. We've separated ourselves already and still collect the fed highway money, at the moment it really wouldn't be in our best interest. It may be what people on the web are saying, but it's not the reality on the ground.

15. Not to offend anyone from Vermont but it is the winter weather
I have many friends and co-workers in Vermont. In fact my recently promoted manager is moving there this month.
My company has two facilities there and I have always made it clear that I don't want to live there.
I know the country side is beautiful and the people are great but I just don't know if I want to deal with that much snow.
I was not trying to put Vermont down by any means, you guys are a hearty group and I can appreciate that.

17. thats the test
thats our population control- many 'flatlanders' move here. We give them the custumary 1-3 years. If they can handle it, they stay (like me), if not? LAter!!! I enjoy it- i'm driving around in a 92 chevy pick-up with 2 wheel drive and summer tires, oh yea, and no windshield wipers for a month now (workin on em tomorrow), and everyday i pass 'Massholes' in the ditch (havent had an accident since i was 17- i'm 36)

10. Hmmmmm, Isn't there altready an AA station nearby?
I think WHMP in Northhampton, Mass. which carries AA, already has a translator station nearby in Greenfield, Mass. So there would be two AA stations near each other?

That would be great, but it sounds like there'd be oversaturation of a small market. Unless they carry different shows.

In any case, I wish the local yakker in our liberal section of Massachusetts would get on the bandwagon instead of carrying Imus followed by Rush followed by Hannity.

13. LOL, I love it!
And can't you just hear the freepers howling now about how the "librul" media is tightening up its total control over us? Never mind that most of talk radio is filled with hateful wingnuts and the majority of TV?newspaper pundits are also on the right or in bed with the right.
