Who here use to listen to Right Wing Radio because that was all their was?
Edited on Fri Jan-14-05 01:27 AM by Quixote1818
And now you listen to Air America FULL TIME and never listen to hate radio? I was one of those people but now I think it's been two months since I last listened to Rush. Once Air America came to Albuquerque they lost me for good. I am just wondering because I just read the following article and I am wondering how bad Air America is beginning to hurt the right wing programs.

1. Can you post a link? This doesn't work.

I listen only to Air America. Before they came to town, I'd listen to the right-wing shows on occasion, but always wound up changing stations in disgust.

2. I'm in that group
I grew up in the Chicago Area. About 3-4 years ago, the only talk radio I'd listen to would be Mike Malloy, who had one of the graveyard shifts on WLS in Chicago. I basically ended up avoiding talk radio at all times during the day, because I just couldn't stand it.

Some days if I needed to get myself angry or woken up, I would flip WLS on and listen to one of them hate-mongers, but after a while I ended up just having to flip on sports talk. Far less annoying.

Air America = Breath of Fresh air.

4. I used to listen to Boortz because he was the only game in town.
I haven't listened to Rush for several years. He's got to be the worst! Boortz is bearable sometimes, but I haven't listened to him either since AAR came on.

I don't know how to find out just how much AAR has hurt RW Talk, but I can tell you I've heard of several stations across the country where Limpballs, Boortz, and Hannity have been replaced by Franken! Every time I read an article about one of them being replaced, I laugh, and then close my eyes and visualize the gnashing of teeth in the RW studio as they are trying to figure out how something like that could possibly happen to them!

HA HA! Go AAR! You've accomplished a lot in less than a year!

5. Randi was talking to Howard Dean yesterday
And she told him that he was talking to about 8 million people. That's a lot of listeners for her. Last I heard, Rush had about 15 million and falling. So Randi still lags far behind, but she has only been on nationally now for about nine months, Rush has been on for years.

I'd be willing to bet that so far Air America's impact on them has been pretty small, but that they've felt some ripples. I do think that's going to change as Air America gains more stations though. I myself have recently come back to it after a long hiatus because I was so depressed after the election I didn't want to think about politics anymore. But I'm back fully now, and I realized just how great it is to have Air America out there. Not to mention DU and other web places. We have so many more options than we used to. And that is something to celebrate.

Oh, but to answer your original question, I would sometimes tune into Fox News, but not Rush because my dad was a dittohead and the more he listened to Rush, the more his heart became filled with hate and his his health faded until he eventually died an early death. I'm not saying Limbaugh caused that, but I do think he sped it along. So I have a personal grudge against the man and I can't stand to even look at him much less listen to him. But since Air America came along, I have given up all corporate media. No Fox, no CNN, no ABC, no CBS, no MSNBC, and no NBC. And since they've been gone, I've never felt better.

6. I listen to Rush...
Edited on Fri Jan-14-05 02:00 AM by TwoSparkles
...because I think it's important to understand the tactics and arguments of these bastards.

I'll get the real scoop--then listen to Rush.

It's been an incredible education for me. I understand their propagandist tactics, their manipulations and their lies better. I used to listen and just think Rush was a conservative guy, spewing his views. Ohhhhh...no, no, no.

Rush clearly gets his marching orders/talking points from the White House. When you understand that, then listen to him talk--it's eye opening.

Undoubtedly, Rush is an integral part as part of the White House communications strategy. Take the social security issue for example. The WH has their strategy and talking points. Rush makes those points and also takes the issue to a rabid level--with awful name calling and shrieking about the Dem side of the issue. Rush can call the Dems liars, robots, jerks, etc---when the WH cannot. In effect, the White House policy on Soc Sec becomes fused with Rush's remarks--and the White House policy becomes more attractive, entertaining, colorful. This hyperbole influences millions of people.

Just one more evil, manipulative strategy--brought to you by the thugs that are the Bush administration.

My philosophy is--if a snake slithered into my house, I wouldn't ignore it and pretend it didn't exist. I'd watch every move and keep my eye on it!

9. I agree
I argue with my conservative friends and when I listen to Rush then listen to other media outlets that contradict him, I can argue my point better.

And yes, Rush is a snake that needs to be watched. I am glad Air America is educating people on the way he manipulates the Truth.

12. You're tougher than I am!
I'm glad someone's keeping an eye on that snake... because he fills me with such rage I can't see straight.

I want to know if he's taking money. He probably doesn't need to. But those people who take bribes and skim and graft almost NEVER need the money. Did Ken Lay need the money?? NO.

7. Never!

There were fewer and fewer things I could listen to, until one day there were none. So I did what any self-respecting person in a totalitarian country does--I bought a shortwave radio and began listening to radio from free countries, except for Ray Taliaferro in the wee morning hours.

Only when San Diego got an FM pirate radio station did I start listening to local radio again. Then we got another one and we also got Air America on AM. Now I have a huge selection of radio to listen to, AM, FM, online streaming, and shortwave. I don't let snakes in my house.

If I went into a store and they had Rush on, I would find someplace else to shop. The other day I went to a store and they had AAR on, so I've decided to shop there more often. If the only choice of music for IPOD was classical, I'm sure they'd have fewer sales. Some people would still buy it, but most want a larger choice.

11. You were in Iraq....
You've sparked my curiosity.

I hope I'm not being too nosey, but were you in the military over there?

I'd like to hear, if you'd like to share!

:)
