So what happened with Christmas spending?
I know it wasn't GOOD, or else we would have heard about it.

So was it simply lackluster or was it troubling? Dark, or bleak?

1. 1% over last year
somewhere in that range. shopping increased the final days of the season. could be people were spending bonus money and that weeks paycheck. there were huge discounts across the retail sector. internet sales may also be a big factor

2. Thanks. Now I just need to check out what they were forecasting...
I seem to remember something about "4% growth", so 1% growth would be lower. Of course my memory could be faulty so I must verify.

3. Don't forget they also "extended" the shopping season.
In other words, they cheated. Again.

5. That I don't remember.
I just remember the news announcer on the radio saying that "they" were extending the shopping season because it was so slow.
