Raise Minimum Wage To "Secure" Social Security?
I know, there is no pressing crisis other than the one wmd bushco has fabricated, but in arguing with the blood-stained zombies on the right over "rescuing" SS, maybe this is an idea to throw a wrench into their continuing and wildly successful efforts to drain every last dollar from our "domestic" government (excluding military expenditures, of course).

They've always wanted to kill Social Security. The public should be reminded of newt's "let it wither on the vine" comment.

Anyway, I have no idea how realistic this is, but it does seem like a way for Dems to turn the whole thing back on killer and his thugs. Picture a clear message from the Dems on this as something like, "Why does the bush administration insist the best way is to take, take, take from the low-class and middle-class? Why not look at solutions that actually benefit middle America? Why does the bush admin ask sacrifice after sacrifice from the poorest in the nation, while giving massive tax cuts and easing regulations for the wealthy? Let's use this opportunity to help those who need it most." - or something like that.

Could it make a substantial difference in protecting SS, if only in the court of public opinion if not as an actual policy?

Initial idea is not mine - came from an LTTE in the local paper today:

-------------------
What will be the effect on the solvency of Social Security if Congress raises the minimum wage?

No doubt revenue will increase from the equal contributions of both the employer and employee. How much revenue is raised will depend on how much the minimum wage is raised since FICA revenue is a percentage of the gross wage. Social Security will become solvent.
