1. Appropriate.
Those Documents saved Bush and rallied his base. Perhaps even are the reason he is in the WH again. Sure would be interesting to find out where they came from.

2. I think they were real, but through numerous
copying, the text got distorted. It was established that the word processor used on the documents did exist at that time, and was in use by the military. The problem was the messenger was killed by the conservative press. CBS erred in not finding another source, or another person to verify the info before airing.

3. Agreed. But why did CBS not pursue the leads it uncovered?
Although the documents in question were unreliable, it seems that the information uncovered by CBS would warrant an extended, thorough examination.

Are they no longer interested in Bush's failed military "career"?

7. Once Doubt was Cast on the Documents...
No one else was/is going to touch it without more proof than copies. This story is dead! No one is going to touch and it will never be taken seriously without someone saying, "I did it! I wrote them!"
Anything less will do nothing but bring up memories of the CBS debacle.

5. they did have them verified
The secretary stated on camera that although the documents were not the ones that she typed they matched the content on the ones she did. In other words what we had with the documents were not forgeries in the sense that they were completly false, rather that they were copies of an origional document.

We need to replace the 'forgeries' MEME with the truth about the documents. It was a well researched story backed up by facts and witnesses.

6. Real?
The secretary said (can't recall her name) she didn't type them and did not have that type of typewriter. Her initials were on the documents indicating she typed them. That and other bogus stuff and CBS's own document experts statements make it almost certain they were forged IMO.

The secretary did however say the information in the memos was consistent with what she remembered. Too bad that was not the emphasis of the story.

Wouldn't it be great if the creating of those memo's could be traced back to Rove?

Why isn't CBS trying to find out who duped them? Or are they doing this and we don't know about it? I have not read anything where CBS said they were trying to find out the real author of the memo's.

Mapes at least should be doing this now especially after she basically took the fall for this fiasco.

8. Here's what happened,
When they purged Chimpy's records back in Texas a few years ago, around '97-'98, they found these documents, in their original. Then, Rove being the diabolical cock-sucker that he is, he come up with the forgery idea. It is not so different than the scheme he used against the "Fortunate Son" guy.

Here's what they did. They retyped the documents with fonts and scripts that they could call into question. Then they leaked the forged documents to a guy they knew hates Bush's guts, someone who's objectivity they could easily call into question with their propaganda machine, and hoped he would give them to the right people. He did. Then of course, only minutes after they are presented on 60 Minutes, some internet guy, a known Repube activist, has the whole font/script/forgery story solved and placed in the perfect forums to be distributed widely, and then of course the corporate media does the rest.

That's why the secretary, that older woman, said that the docs were consistant with what was going on, but wouldn't confirm that they were the originals.

Of course it worked and I'll tell you why. I had a discussion about them with some friends while on a trip to Vegas right before the election. The ONLY things they could say about that whole thing was what was repeated ad nauseum on Fox. That's it. They knew nothing more. To them, they were forgeries and Rather and CBS hate Bush. Period, end of story. They did not know a single other tidbit regarding the whole story. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Nothing about Bush's dereliction of duty, his grounding, his missing his physical. Bumpcuss.

The originals were destroyed by Rove and those crooks that purged his records in Texas. It's just another example of too many people thinking that Rove wouldn't stoop that low, when that is not even close to how low he would go.
