How much have you ever seen gas prices go up in one day?
My husband got gas this morning (the lowest octane) for $1.69 a gallon. When he came home from work this evening, he drove past the same gas station and the same octane gas was $1.79 a gallon.

10 cents a gallon in ten hours?

Is that unusual or not?

1. I have seen increases of 10-30 cents daily in Michigan
There have been days in the recent past when the prices will jump 10 to 15 cents in one day. I have traveled into other areas in the state where the increases are close to 30 cents.

2. Ok thanks
I just didn't know if that much of a jump in one day was normal.

3. 10-15 cents usually
Today they went up about 9. I was watching a news report in which they interviewed someone from a gas station who said that they watch what Circle K does. If they raise ther prices, the other station will raise theirs. To me this makes no sense. If the once station would keep their prices lower than Circle K, wouldn't they get more business. Okus it sounds to me like collusion. Weird.

4. On 9/11/01 gas at certain stations went from 1.49 to 10.00/gal.
Yup, 10 bucks per gallon. Not all of the stations, just certain ones. Our state atty gen went ballistic and took names and photos for possible prosecution. A settlement was reached, later. People blocked the main roads waiting in line for the $10.00 per gallon gas, when a few blocks down the street, it was regular price. I needed gas that day, of all days, so I drove north of town on fumes and paid regular price.

Otherwise, in the last year, I have seen gas up 30 cents in one day. I don't think 10 cents is unusual. Maddening, but not unusual here in Kansas. Here it depends on the news of the day. The gougers are alive and well and waiting.
