1. Repressed homosexuality.
That's why.

3. You are so right,
nnn!

It is obvious to me that those who object to homosexuality between consenting adults are all closet cases.
I don't see any other explanation...People who are really straight and in love with their significant others couldn't give a rat's behind about who is gay and who is not.

5. Repressed any sexuality, and maybe bad potty training.
I get the feeling many of them were not nurtured well as children, too much may have been expected. Many parents don't understand child development. But many conservative parents raise their children either quite well or even permissively. They just learn to channel their controlling, punitive, and judgmental tendencies to other areas of their lives. Lakoff describes this in "Moral Politics". It made some sense for me.

Interesting analysis, particularly in light of what was said in that book
by the psychiatrist who analysed Bush's childhood. Babs was a very cold distant mother. Not affectionate at all. I think she has been referred to as a steel fist in a velvet glove. Poppy was weak and not the one who really wore the pants in the family. W was not the one who held the family's expectations of achievements. He was a mean-spirited bully from the getgo. All the makings of a real cold-hearted "Christian".

6. It's not repressed homosexuality, but the self-loathing that makes the
people so evil. They seem determined to destroy every thing around them that represents what they hate the most about themselves. If they could just come to terms with what and who they are, the world would be a better place for them, and for everyone else.

LOL. Just kidding. I have no clue. It's like anything they think is a plague that's about to destroy the family or society.

How come so many conservative politicans all have close family members who are openly gay?

Dick Cheney
Alan Keyes
Newt Gingrich

16. And don't forget John Ashcroft.
Though I'm sure he'd prefer that you not ask him about his oldest child, John Jr. (or "Jay," as he is popularly called).

12. The right wing needs an enemy

When the communist threat died down they had to find a new enemy to rant and rave about. They will always find somebody to brand as "evil" in order to make themselves feel more virtuous. Eventually, if they have the chance to do so, they will brand everything non-Christian as "evil" and work very hard to stamp it out. This includes everything from science (those evil evolutionists) to gays to Buddhists to ...

13. Bottom line: sex is the bogeyman to give them a simplistic view
of 'the enemy.' Conservatives need someone to give them a simple , narrow 'enemy' to basically scapegoat all the evils of society, and their own personal demons, onto. I think that sex, being fun and easy, is something that is viewed with suspicion and fear by people whose worldview is all about punishment, suffering, and obedience. Hence, in order for sex to be allowable (and not 'dirty, evil, etc.'), it must only be practiced in certain prescribed circumstances. The flip-side is that sex outside these rules, is by definition, one of the worst of sins. Throw in the hierarchal, male-dominated, religious worldview, and you have the reason why homosexuality per se is viewed as especially corrupting, because it 'confuses' the 'natural, divinely ordained' male over female ordering of society.

14. If you are straight
You don't see homosexuality as a temptation.

If you are struggling to repress it, of course it's a temptation, and therefore a "danger" (<-- sarcasm quotes).

It's like they are trying to quit smoking and every person they see smoking reminds them that they want to have a cigarette. If you give them a drink, they think "alcohol, that reminds me of bars, that reminds me of smoking, I want to smoke. Alcohol is evil."

Me, I don't like the taste of cigarettes. If there's an open pack in front of me, it's not a threat. It doesn't trigger any emotions one way or another.

If you put a sponge in front of me, I think, "ugh I should do the dishes."

If you put a sponge in front of them they think "A sponge. Those have holes. Things go in holes. That's like sex. That's dirty. And sponges wipe up dirt. That's a girl's job. But he talks like a boy. He must be gay. What's it like to be gay? Why am I thinking about being gay? This sponge is making me gay."

15. constipation
They've not been able to close their anuses around their stools, so
they simply shroud the relics in their underwear. This has them
pondering, as if penetrated by christian zealots from behind,, "what"
is god thinking... is this huge turd that won't leave me really gods
penis... making me raw and giving me pleasure as the blood oozes from
the sores and the cracks... or is it all the red meat?

It must be god, and he's giving me the big stool shag to show me that
i'm to crack down on homosexuals, as it must be an omen.

The moral of this story: Eat well, don't get constipation, and avoid
the scourge of neocon homophobia. ;-)

20. because chimpy is gay as a jay
It's the same principle as Hitler trying to kill all the Jews because of his Jewish grand-parent.

Self-hatred is a terrible thing.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.
