Looters said to be target of the British

The alleged abuse of Iraqi civilians by British soldiers at a base near Basra, which has riveted British public opinion and provoked widespread condemnation, arose from an effort to stop persistent looting of humanitarian supplies, the commanding officer of the accused soldiers said at a British court-martial hearing Friday.

Taylor testified that he had ordered his men to "round up as many men as we could, work them for an hour or so, and then release them."

These tyrants have an excuse for everything don't they?

1. Just wondering how many excuses
everyone of them will come up with? NOTHING deserves being tortured.

2. Okay, that's just about enough.
This just may be the lamest excuse yet for this horrendous behavior. What the hell is wrong with these people? On the plus side of this, notice that the commanding officer is the one testifying to this, NOT just the soldiers, like the ones this government is trying. I didn't notice commanding officers testifying or anything in Graner's trial. (Unless I missed reading about it.)
