Nice blog by soldier about birding in Iraq
I saw this on a birding list I belong to. Apparently the soldier was interviewed on NPR this morning while I was out clearing 10 inches of snow off my driveway.

I'm happy to see something other than the misery come out of Iraq.

3. For some reason I find it disturbing.

Maybe it's the pic at the top of the page ... or maybe it's the fact that the dude shouldn't be there in the first place!

6. It was not that dude's choice to be there
However, I am glad to see that he is trying to make the best of a bad situation. I can certainly think of worse things he could be doing with his time than birding.

8. I still find it disturbing
and to paraphrase something I said earlier on another thread, I'm not going to engage in the collective rationalizing that brought the dude to Iraq and enables him to remain there.

It sounded better on the other thread. The point is I really don't care who he is or how he got there or what he's doing at any given moment. He should be counting birds at home, wherever that is. It's wrong that he's doing it in Iraq.

Therefore, his site sucks.

7. Agreed, its still disturbing when you think
of the killing going on. I wonder what his thought are of the war itself...
