I also met State Senator Virginia Williams tonight.
His speech was good, he hit all the points, emphasizing grassroots organizing and abandoning the 18 state strategy.
He spoke of framing, and expressing our values; jobs, healthcare, and education.
the most important point he made to the old main line Dems in the crowd, "Don't copy the Republicans, be Democrats." We need to draw a distinction between R & D's.
Another point was we should not just say why not to vote for our opponents, but give them reason to vote for our candidate.
It was themes we have already heard, but was worth repeating.
He did a Q & A for about 20 minutes, and it was there he was the most passionate.
I did get to shake his hand. I was not on the aisle so when he came by I said in a loud voice, "Thank you for coming here." That caught his attention, he stopped, reached in and shook my hand.
I spoke with Virginia Williams, and she urged we keep the pressure on David Williams, the Kentucky Senate leader that is trying to deny Virginia Williams her seat in the State Senate.
I buttonholed a couple prominent local Dems to push my more aggressive campaigning ideas. But to tell the truth, my talk with Virginia Williams was the best part of the night. Her intelligence and strength impressed me. She is going to win her battle and will be seated in the Ky senate.
Keep the pressure on the Republicans in the Kentucky state senate. David Williams is not above the state constitution, and that point must be driven home.
It was a good night.
