His involvment will almost certainly be used to further the new meme about racisim on the part of the Democratic party in its hesitance to confirm Dr. Rice. Anyone want to bet me that Byrd's bygone days of KKK participation won't be dragged out as a talking point by the media whores? Anyone?

It's tempting to write off the media whores and their captive audience when they pull this shit, but unless they are called on it each and every time, they will undermine any and all progressive efforts. The republicans figured this out a long time ago, invested billions in bringing their efforts to fruition, and it's finally paying off for them.

Ignoring is easy.

Losing is easy.

Someday, we'll figure out that winning elections is an important part of having a viable political movement, and stop writing off the death culture and its anti-liberal press as irrelevant. Until then...
