I think the greatest risk aside from people getting killed is a scenario where the majority Shiites gain control and begin an alliance with the Shiites in Iran. What's going to stop that from happening I don't know. How you avoid civil war is also another major concern to me. Especially if we are still there and stuck in the middle. Maybe Iraq will split into three separate countries, but then again, I don't think Turkey will stand by and allow a "Kurdistan" in northern Iraq.
It is amazing how it seems so little thought went into this whole adventure. Amuricans were so consumed with the idea of killing some Arabs, any Arabs, after 9/11 that we simply got dragged along for the ride. I feel like I'm in the backseat of a car with a drunk, blind person driving 150 MPH's down the freeway, with no way to get off.
What if Saddam wins in a "write-in" campaign. Can we say, "Democracy established, the Iraqi people have spoken"? I really hope for nothing but success in this "hell-hole", but like we say in the Navy; "shit in one hand and hope in the other, and see which hand fills up first".
"I want to die quietly in my sleep like my grandfather did....Not screaming and crying like those riding in the car with him".
