Evolution Debate Stirs Up Ga. Lawmakers
http://www.11alive.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=58116

Two weeks after a federal judge ordered Cobb County to remove evolution disclaimers from science books, a state lawmaker has introduced a bill requiring that only "scientific fact" to be taught in public schools. To Republican State Rep. Ben Bridges of Cleveland, that rules out the theory of evolution.

“A theory can be wrong. If it's wrong, or possibly could be wrong, don't teach it. Teach it with facts. If you've got facts to back it up, that's great,” Bridges told 11Alive News Reporter Jon Shirek.

Bridges' said he did not consider other evolution controversies when introducing his bill, which he said is driven by his Christian beliefs.

This guy's a moron. That may be the saddest and funniest and most pathetic thing I've ever read.

I suppose he thinks gravity might not exist, either? Since it's "just a theory"?

Maybe it's true: the earth sucks.

What's hilarious is that ID and creationism and the rest are so far removed from "science fact" that he's essentially banning them, while evolution is considered a "fact" by all reputable scientists.

6. So apparently they're in favor of eliminating all science alltogether..
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 04:32 PM by Salviati
Damn morons who don't understand the scientific use of language.

Newtonian physics? It is wrong in that it doesn't work for large velocities or at the sub-atomic level, well chuck it out then. Quantum Mechanics? Doesn't include gravity. General Relativity, also doesn't work at the quantum level. I guess we'll just have to teach the kids string theory until we find out what's wrong with it... Oh wait, it's only a THEORY, well we can't have that.

I swear, I was brought up a Christian, but I just wish that the ignorant fools like this guy who claim to be Christians would just climb back into the primordial ooze that befits their intellectual capacity...

9. arg
in my school, when we talk about "evolution", all the religious right-wingers like to complain to our principle because we're talking about a "theory"...
but wait, isn't there the "theory of gravity?" its not like it applies some of the time. Evolution has been scientifically proven and these people are flipping out and trying to get it taken out! ARG!
i want to learn FACTS! not BELIEFS!

LEAVE THE ISSUE ALONE!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and this issue SHOULD NOT be in any way controlled by our government (God knows enough is controlled by the government already).

Let them teach the evolution theory--leave the creation theory to church on Sunday's.

Relax, and take a deep breath. IT will be OKAY.

17. But, the problem is that they aren't happy with that....
The fundie doomsday cultists (which do not include most rational Christians) will not be happy until their beliefs are legislated on the general population. I wish we could just leave it at this, teach science in the schools and leave the religion to the churches, but as long as they are willing to pick this fight, we must fight back.

Shortest distance between two points is a what? Pythagorean who? That's it I demand the local school stop teaching geometry at once. There is way too much voodoo theoryizen in that thar mathymatiks.

That is if I hear about one shop teacher telling students to check for a 90 degree angle by measuring 3 foot, 4 foot and making sure the resulting line is 5 foot; there is gonna be hell to pay I tell you.

18. This one is my favorite:
comes from PBS on the challenge to evolution...

1999: Columbine High School
(Evolution Challenged)
Columbine shooting spurs attack on evolution. The tragedy at Columbine High School leads to a general outcry that teenagers in America have lost their moral bearings. In Congress, conservative Republican Rep. Tom DeLay of Texas links this moral decline specifically to the teaching of evolution: "Our school systems teach the children that they are nothing but glorified apes who are evolutionized out of some primordial soup." DeLay's accusation, while outrageous to many, expresses a common fear anti-evolutionists have voiced for two centuries.
