8. the only thing better
he would be the Republican candidate for Gov in Florida. We'd be assured a Dem victory then. Perhaps we could suggest a change of residence?

12. Who says he's spending his own money?
Like most conservatives, Keyes is very adept at using OPM - other people's money.

Maybe he's hoping he can break into double digits in his next run. Name familiarity and all that.

21. Not only uses other people's money.

One of the expenses of any campaign is salaried campaign staffers. And Keyes' top paid campaign staffer is ... Keyes! He doesn't lose money on his campaigns, he MAKES a bundle.

To the best of my knowledge, Keyes is the sole office seeker in either major political party to put himself on his own campaign's payroll.

15. Not A Chance In Hell
First, he'll get slated or he'd ever get the nomination.

The Illinois GOOP got their heads handed to them last November with Keyes as their poster boy...with most going along belately since they needed a candidate with some cash and name recognition and fast.

The Senate is a nice little plumb for the GOOP to grab, not like the Governorship that control thousands of state patronate jobs. The moderates and wingnuts here are already squaring off to regroup and Ray LaHood's name keeps popping up as a very likely and strong candidate. Keyes won't be allowed within a Maryland mile of any party activities.

16. Even the GOP is saying "No thanks."
The Illinois Leader (the GOP rag) said a few days ago that the GOP is not interested in having Keyes run. What made the article SO funny was the fact that this lack of interest was expressed within an article discussing a "grass roots" meeting Keyes was hosting in Cook County that was by invitation ONLY. The guest list was not made up of IL GOP regulars...

This guy needs to learn how to win friends and influence people, I'd
say.

19. Keyes lives here in my Maryland town, and is politically invisible
Haven't seen him at the grocery, either.

He has no connection or following among this state's Republicans that I know of.
