OOPS!...Paul Bremer 'Misplaced' 9 BILLION $'s while in Iraq
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=540&ncid=736&e=2&u=/ap/20050130/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_funds

Bremer complained the report "assumes that Western-style budgeting and accounting procedures could be immediately and fully implemented in the midst of a war."

The inspector general said the occupying agency disbursed $8.8 billion to Iraqi ministries "without assurance the moneys were properly accounted for."

U.S. officials, the report said, "did not establish or implement sufficient managerial, financial and contractural controls." There was no way to verify that the money was used for its intended purposes of financing humanitarian needs, economic reconstruction, repair of facilities, disarmament and civil administration.

.........jeez Paul, if a schmuck like me misplaced even 500 bucks I'm sure there'd be and inquiry and I'd do some time. george must really like you a lot, or, he's in on the take.

6. They put a couple of officers in jail for taking one Friggin Truck abandon
by some other incompetent unit commander, in order to save their own troops lives. To be fair we know without a doubt these officers went to jail more for using bad or poor judgement in a time of war. War was no excuse for their conduct is what the Judge was really saying in their case. We know without a doubt it wasn't about stealing government property because they couldn't go any where with the property but into a war zone. The officers took the truck because some incompetent some where in the system didn't ensure the unit they commanded had the proper equipment to do complete their mission.

Mr. Bremer was protected by at least 100,000 layers of security and gets a medal for what he terms as his inability to account for 9 Billion Dollars. Wheres Norman Coleman on this issue?

15. Fat Tony ALWAYS gets his tribute
Before Paul can spend any of that 9 billion, he must pay tribute to the bush crime family of course. Maybe Paul can't account for that money, BUT I CAN.

17. Yep
Here is my "perspective" thread on it from yesterday
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3031315#3031893

This was the exchange this morning with Bremer on the Today Show

Bremer was on talking about how great a job he did and how great we are doing training Iraqis. Katie said (close quote)~"Oh and I can't let you go without asking about another little matter there seems to be $9 Billion missing from the Iraqi Treasury how do you respond to that?"
Bremer:"Well we were in the middle of a WAR we didn't have time to set Western accounting measures.....the commanders on the ground told me that these funds needed to be spent to rebuild, you realize it was an economy much like our own Great Depression, so I instructed be released as requested and I did establish an inspector general in every ministry (didn't find anything)..."

Katie:"Okay thank you"
