The End of History and the loss of credibility of "leaders".
A few years ago, a Neocon called Francis Fukuyama claimed that with the triumph of Western Civilization and the fall of Soviet Communism, no more problems existed in the world, and , we have arrived at the End of History!. Unfortunately,no one told the Iraqi or Afghan or Korean or Iranian people this good news from another disciple of Leo Strauss.

In fact, after the lies that have been pouring forth from the lips of Bush, Rice, Powell, Rumsfeld and Cheney during the past four odd years, it is likely that no one believes a word of what comes out of our "leaders" mouths. In their attempt to seize the propaganda initiative, each event is magnified out of proportion, each item gets more and more fanciful and real or imaginary threats have to be constantly invented by the many paid shills and propagandists.

We are now in a cycle where the so called elections in Iraq are being touted as the equivalent of the Second Coming.Once again, the ignorance of our leaders about who, what, where, why and when they are deling with in the Third World promises to hold nasty surprises rivaling that in Vietnam. The Shiites, along with the Sunnis and Kurds, may hate each other intensely but they happen to hate the Americans even more and probably the British with their colonial past in Iraq would be the only people who can claim to be on a higher level in the pecking order. If the Ayatollah Shistani demands the exit of U.S. forces from Iraq and we refuse, expect the carnage to increase by several orders of magnitude.

The Law of unintended consequences is waiting in the wings refuting the claim of End of History.
