marines deaths in Ohio: Is this "off color"?

I would like to get as many people as possible to flood the ediitors' offices of newspapers around where those poor soldiers came from with letters commenting on how their political choices made the horrible events of this week more likely than they would have been if their choices had been different.... I have never been a big emily post fan.... so I don't know if I really want to do this.

Readers won't be very receptive to LTTEs that basically are nothing more than "you brought this on yourselves by voting for Bush." It would be far better to write numerous LTTEs demanding that Bush come to the region to visit the funerals of those marines. You say in the LTTE that you know how much he hates paying his respects to soldiers who have died in his war (evidenced by his refusal to visit a single funeral), but one town losing 20 in a week is just so extreme, even Bush should be moved to attend. If 20 dead marines aren't worth his time, maybe that tells us something about his true support for the troops, doesn't it?

You have a whole region in mourning over losing 20 marines in one week; instead of telling them what awful people they are, their anger should be directed at the schmuck who doesn't even have the decency to come to the funerals.

You have to figure out what your goal is - if your goal is to persuade them to abandon their Bush loving ways, well, this isn't a good way to do it.

but I will also point out that policy changes that might have been implememted by pres. kerry may have saved their loved ones' lives.....

Promoting the policies of Kerry implies of course criticizing those of Bush (and indirectly those who voted for him), but there's definitely a difference between saying "I voted for Kerry because he would have done all he could to prevent such tragedies" and "y'all killed those soldiers by voting for Bush."

That is, that the criticism should be directed at Bush's policies.

Regarding LTTE, though, I think we cannot let editorials such as the one below go by without a rebuttal.

As the rest of us wrestled with our feelings, those heartbroken families set an example. They said their sons were honored to defend their country and fight for freedom. They believe in the cause. So should we. Anything less dishonors their sacrifice.

How ironic that the same week those parents stood strong in the eye of the storm, nearly half of the Second District was ready to wave the white flag and vote for a candidate who wants to pull out of Iraq.
