3. Canadian Crude oil imports = 987,000 bbl/day (2004)
These imports are mostly for the east cost since Alberta is the the primary exporter. Of course since consumption is part of the "global" pool of oil, bottom line... it is more cost effective to import than to ship local oil from west to east. Hence why Canada has a net oil surplus.
