In contemplating the Sheehan phenomenon, and Bush's refusal to meet with her "for a second time", my memory travels to a time when a man -- Attorney General Robert Fitzgerald Kennedy, met with angry blacks, a meeting arranged by various activists, including Harry Bellefonte and Lena Horne.
The activists gave their anger to Bobby with both barrels; one even said he was sick to his stomach simply to be in the room with someone like him.
Bobby sat there, took it, and listened, without saying much.
And it was a pivotal point for him. He really took on their pain and anger and spent the rest of his life fighting their fight.
Compare and contrast to His Chimperial Highness, who privately shrieks insults at the audacity of this mere female peasant who would dare to confront him, and sets his attack dogs to defame her.
Bobby had real guts. I miss him, still. Bush is merely a blowhard, and yes Virginia, most Americans have figured that out.
