1. yeah that angle is retarded
NASCAR dads is a BS story. surprise surprise- white males who watch NASCAR and identify with that culture trend Republican.

the reason soccer moms were a legit story is that they tend to be swing votes. NASCAR dads are not.

maybe we can start pumping up some story about the real voting phenomenon being NPR feminists?

3. Isn't the concept of Nascar dad still conjecture?
The term soccer mom was coined after looking at the voting patterns for women who voted for Clinton. When this myth of Nascar dads fails to materialize in 2004 I will not be surprised.

5. And they know they're out of work because of...
all the blacks and hispanics taking their jobs because of affirmative action.

7. Independent of party at what rate do the unemployed vote?
I guess it depends if you are angry or dispondent.

6. It's not difficult to get people to vote against their interests.
Unfortunately, all you need to do is push some hot button--gays, abortion, terrorists, libruls, whatever.

9. NASCAR Dads
I really resent the implication that all men who watch NASCAR races are redneck, hillbilly unemployed yahoo repukes. That simply is not the case. Many are, however, I've seen it. But there are a good number of "NASCAR Dads", including my husband, who are race fans and who are not unemployed, redneck or Republicans. And most of the friends we have who are also race fans do not fit that profile, either. My husband is in the military and is not a Republican. He voted for Gore in 2000 and will vote a Dem again next year.

This topic was discussed for a bit on Bill Maher's last show this past Friday night with Michael Moore and what he said was this is the rich repuke politicians telling the low income white man that they, too, can be rich like the politicians. All they have to do is vote for them because they have all the ideas to make the lower income, and middle class white guy rich, too. That it's a phrase made up by the repukes to draw in those who have no real political leaning and can be convinced to believe they, too, can be rich through programs only the Republicans can make happen. NASCAR is the fastest growing sport, with many of the races selling out to over 100,000+ fans each week. Many of the cars are sponsored by various branches of the military, home improvement stores, etc. It's a huge audience for their lopsided message and they want to grab on to that rising enthusiasm and this is their way to do that. It's sick, really.

10. i agree wholeheartedly
but i would still point out that this is not a crucial swing voting bloc. Male NASCAR fans overwhelmingly vote Republican. The only reason to bring up this "story" is to try to convince the electorate that the GOP will win overwhelmingly.

12. The article ran here a few weeks ago
NASCAR Dads: GOP’s inside track by Scott Shepard
Aug. 31, 2003

If "NASCAR dads" are in the driver's seat for the 2004 presidential election, the Democratic Party's chance of recapturing the White House may well be roadkill.

In fact, as thousands of racing fans descended on this small town for the Labor Day weekend running of the Southern 500, it was difficult to find any NASCAR fan, dad or mom, willing to listen to Democrats.

In interviews amid the Confederate flag-flying RVs in the parking lot and infield of Darlington Raceway and among the souvenir trailers lined end to end just outside the raceway gates, only one Democratic presidential candidate got a favorable mention --- Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina.

Well its not much of a counter! I saw the guy on Faux news talking and then the poor guy started to forget his point! BAAAWAAAHAA

All I can say is that Bluecollar jobs have been majorly lossed so I would think that Unemplpoyment in America would get their attention!

16. So how is it that Nascar Dads aren't just a repackaged version
of the Angry White Male from a couple election cycles ago? Sure, it's a kinder, gentler name but sounds like the same demographic to me... or am I missing something?
