Hey, did anyone know there IS a Camp Casey on Whidbey Island, WA?

A place set apart from the rest of the world...

In the 1890's, the newly built Fort Casey on Whidbey Island guarded the entrance to Puget Sound. Today, Camp Casey Conference Center offers versatile facilities and beautiful surroundings, making it an ideal place to play, relax and learn.

Camp Casey is perfect for youth and adult retreats for groups from 10 to 350. Schools and churches love Casey. Historic lodging, cafeteria style dining, meeting rooms all in an amazing setting. Camp Casey is situated on over one mile of Puget Sound beachfront overlooking the Olympic Mountains. We have playfields, trails, a gym and are next door to the state park and lighthouse.

They also have a fairly large Naval Air station there.

WW2 era ruins overlooking the beaches. Built to protect the US from the Japanese. All abandoned. Kind of fun to explore.

on the southern end. the lib'rul end. Beautiful island and supposed to be the longest island in US surrounded by sea water. Fort Casey is really cool. My daughter attended an art conference there, stayed in officer's quarters from old days. Who said they are moving here? which town? I live in rural area but I wish I could move to Freeland. Love it.

and not only that, it's the only place on the island where I get 5 bars on my cell phone.

and we always complain about the reception in that area. It is not that great anywhere you go on the island.

So the northern end (Clinton area) is the lib'rul end? I would imagine the Coupeville area is more conservative then. Damn it! Wish I knew that before I bought land. So how long have you lived there? I'm
moving from San Diego, so I imagine it will be quite a culture shock.
Any advice you can give to a person newly moving to the area?

near the ferry. You will be on the the more conservative end of the island. A lot of military because of the NAS. Very few bush signs on our end.
It's a lovely place to live. All the shopping is in Oak Harbor tho'.
You'll be close. Down here in Clinton we have one little local grocery and not much more.
There are a lot of festivals at different places on the island. A lot of pretty places to see. Langley, Freeland. We have 5 dog parks. One is at a beach. There are a couple up at your end.
The island is a combination of farmland and trees. Oak Harbor is really the only city type place.
I've been here a couple of years. I used to live in Concrete, WA. Now there is a strange place. Think Northern Exposure meets DEliverance.

I had an absolute blast exploring it, listening to the history about it, and especially playing hide and go seek in it. It's an amazing place, and I'm glad we have it around.

the fort really is a great place. They hold a lot of different things there.
